I don't believe the Passion to be Anti semitic in intent or in content. i'd like to believe that most christians are NOT anti semitic HOWEVER,

can any of us doubt that a movie like this will bring out the worst in SOME people??

I DO believe that there ARE antisemitic people, particularly from extreme religious groups.

So, having said that, would that be enough reason to label the film anti semitic? no.

What the hell is in this movie that makes it so controversial? Isn't it just part of the bible on film?

Couldn't you have posted this in one of the 5000 other Passion of Christ threads?

Do you think a Lifer would know better than to start a new thread when 50 others JUST LIKE IT already existed?

If you said "yes" you'd be wrong.

seriously stop with all the freakin' passion threads. Post them all in one thread so those of that dont' care won't have see every other thread contain the word Passion.

After being blamed for the death of the majority's god and that being used as a justification for over 1000 years of persecution. I am not surprised that some people are antsy about this movie.

if it bothers you so much, IGNORE IT, by responding you just keep it alive longer.

like I said it's hard to ignore when it's all over the board and people create threads about it when it's been covered in so many others.

As far as I can tell, the anti-Semitism angle exists only in the media hype. There haven't been hordes of people whipped into an anti-Jewish frenzy by the movie. All I keep hearing is the media warning about the backlash, but nothing about anything actually happening.

i agree, i don't think this movie is any more anti semitic than say Schindlers list was Anti German. my only point was there will always be extremists that react badly but you can't call something anti semitic just because that's how extremists will respond to it.

I saw the movie last night, and I wouldn't call it antisemitic. I heard that Mel Gibson actually took this movie from the book "The Dolourous Passion of Christ" (a very interesting read). While it is obvious that the Jewish high priests in the movie were certainly against the man Jesus, there was nothing personal about it. They felt threatened, and as leaders, led others to help them in persecuting him... not at all unlike the way society works today: we also have leaders that initiate reactions among the masses.

I say go see it and take the movie for what it is: the last 12 hours of Jesus' life on earth.

Take it easy,

I think this movie ought to be subtitled (freely plagerized from Willie Shakespeare) "Much ado about nothing".
