Lots of issues here.

While it does appear she is not in a coma, it does appear to be a vegitative state. The right to pull the plug should exist. Living in a bed for 13 years is not much quality of life.

However, starving someone to death does not seem very human either....
agree 100% maybe if there is a more humane way. But I'm sure there isn't.
that's easy. send a moab her way and call it collateral damage.

Unless you appoint an independent advocate anyone could potentially wind up in a Chiavo like condition. If you are under 40 and collapse in front of a doctor . . . hell yes . . . resuscitation is good and your prognosis is decent. If you've entered the fifth decade of life OR you are revived well after the insult . . . resuscitation often fails. If you are successfully resuscitated you will likely live a short comatose life or an extended period in a persistent vegetative state.

People write living wills and have health care power of attorneys but they often change their minds when push comes to shove.

Her parents seem to genuinely care for their daughter but IMHO they want her alive for their benefit not hers. The husband has right to have a Life. His wife's Life has been over for 13 years. I know if I was in her place I would want the g-tube removed (I assume that's how they were/are feeding/hydrating her) so everyone else could get on with their lives instead of arguing over the remnants of mine. I hope it's a good hospital . . . if not she could die from re-feeding syndrome.

So give her an excessive dose of Morphine. Living in a bed for 13 years with no hope of recovery is a pretty good sign that, yes, you should let the person die.

I agree Cad.

I KNOW that any governor is not qualified to intervene. What does Jeb know about the case? What he has read in the newspapers over the last week or so? He is no more competent to make a decision in this case than any of us. The courts have been mulling it for a while it appears. It would seem the court is in the best position to make a qualified decision here.

Shame the well qualified have taken 13 years to make a decision. This should have been decided long ago.

Starving to death is a horrible way to die, this woman has been in this state for 13 years and all the doctors say she really has no chance to ever recover. In some ways medicine was easy 100 years ago before all the machines.

how sad. i feel sorry for all sides. the parents don't want here child to die. the husband feels that since her life ain't worth living she should have the right to die. what about the poor women? my god can you think about how she is going through that?

What about a person that believes in the after life? shouldn't she get her final reward? should she be forced to live as a vegetable? sheesh. end the torture and let her die.

Maybe they can give the woman a device. On the device are two buttons. One button sends delicious liquid food thru the feeding tube. The other sends thru a tasteless, painless poison. The woman, who I guess responds to various stimuli, could be explained very carefully what the buttons do. We could then leave the choice in her hands. Literally.

It is unknown whether the woman is competent or not, and what her wishes are. Therein lies the problem.

The real sad thing is that the parents/family are on national TV saying the husband's motivation for wanting his wife to die is the inheritance.

Are you always this much of an asshole or do you just like kicking people when they are down?

Neither. Didn't the mods ban your sorry ass for retarded comments like that? Too bad it didn't last. ;)

It's too bad for the husband. He probably loves his wife and is dying inside to see her live like that (which she obviously wouldn't want to. Would you? I know...you can 't PROVE that she doesn't want to live like that, so keep the f'ing tube plugged in for another 30 years), but all the a-holes in the world say he's only in it for the money. If that was my wife, I'd break into the hospital and smother her...out of love and sympathy. It's a disgrace what the anti-abortion bible thumpers will stoop to....

No, that wasn't thread reason they banned me. Did you have another childish comeback to make? I still maintain you are an asshole for what you have said in this thread. Obviously you have never seen anyone you loved on a feeding tube. Asshat. :|
