The Osbourne's - A Family Value Show?

It is according to MTV. I haven't seen it and I don't plan to, but the clips I've seen don't represent the kind of family values I think most middle American's espouse.

It seemed like every other word was getting bleeped.

My roommate has a couple episodes on VCD, & it's definitely a pretty jacked up family.

Not the family values I was raised with.

That having been said it is pretty damn funny.

Like a drug fed to a useless worthless crack addict I find myself watching it if I flip to the channel and it's on. I don't go out of my way to watch it but I don't turn it over.

I have never seen such a clear-cut case in all my years of case studies of two children so intensely spoiled by their parents. If there has ever been an example of kids set up for a life of disaster these kids are such an example. They are obviously very lazy, selfish, self-centered, socially inept beyond words, and stupid.

I'm not slighting Ozzy. I don't care for his music and I doubt he's a great father but these kids really are a couple of childhood disasters.

Ozzy doesn't beat his kids.
Ozzy tries to talk his kids out of drinking, partying, and drugs, et cetera, and freely uses himself as a negative example.
Ozzy has always taken his family with him on tours so they could actually grow up as a family.
Ozzy supports his kids in the things they try to do.

Who gives a damn whether they swear a lot? The show is funny, mainly because it's funny to see Ozzy Osbourne being a father and doing all the normal things that all of us peons do.

That being said, MTV may consider it somewhat tongue-in-cheek to call it a family values show, but it's not entirely untrue.

I'm certainly addicted to watching it, I wish it was on more often. And I hate that they're considering doing the same type of thing with certain other stars. No need to take a good idea and then cheapen it by running it into the group with crappy knock-offs.

I find them to be the most functional, dysfunctional family. I like the show and some of Ozzy's parenting techniques. At least he doesn't deny his drug and alcohol abuse, nor does he glorify them

Aceman's point as well is interesting because although what you say, lord, is true the fact remains his kids are still a joke. They have absolutely no problem solving or interpersonal skills. I mean look at ozzy's son - he's like a 6 year old brat who just cries when he wants something and curses at everyone and is continually angry and upset. He is a very troubled kid you can tell and looking at his dump of a sister I think she's the same way.

In one sense they are good parents (god that hurts to admit!), but they are clearly too lax on their kids. If you underdiscipline a kid no matter how good your intentions are you do them a disservice.

And it's not the norm to see kids being spoiled, getting whatever they want and being social wastes, parents being unable to do anything at all to stop it? At least the Osbournes try, and the kids do mostly listen to them. You wouldn't be watching it if the show were like the Waltons, would you? It's close enough to reality to keep it interesting, without it being too much like a normal home.

<< he's like a 6 year old brat who just cries when he wants something >>

and thats different from any other 6 year old how?

I actually know a 6 year old who doesn't do that 😉

My sister got me watching it, I think it is too funny. Ozzie is the best, LOL.

The next episode has to do with the mother saying she is going to pee into Jacks (the son) bottle of Jim Beam that she found in his room. The preview shows her going into the bathroom with the bottle.

LMAO, have to see that episode.

Errmm...he's 16. 🙂 But the sentiment still stands.

However, most 16 year olds aren't getting money from daddy to start their own record label. It's funny to see a socially inept little boy trying to act like a hip rock world executive.

Funny...sad...yep :0

My oh My, how the world has changed.

Does anybody remember Beaver Clever and family besides me?😱

I tried teaching my kids by example not to do drugs and alcohol. Here is a clue in reality. Your kids will do what they want when they want and how they want at every oppurtunity for the rest of their lives. Parents need to understand that and not try and direct their children. If parents are living a stable respectable life without undo conflict, then that is the example the children will have to fall back on when they fall down on their own. When parents dictate moral and societal mores to their children, they will lose them, without the stability I mentioned above. Osbournes have none of that.

The Osbournes are MTV exploitive voyerism ala all the rest of the gendra that is on the tube nowdays. It's only entertainment, and poor quality at that.

And I have watched it. Its really disgusting, and I was rivited to it. Damn there is no hope for us old hippies,is there?😉

I think this show illustrates the downfall of western civiliation perfectly. Plus it's cool to see people richer and more famous than me who are so Fvcked up.

Fly'n high again and again and again.

So if you were as rich as Ozzy is you wouldn't spoil your kids?

The money and Sharon being his manager has a lot to do with it but at least they are still married and his kids have grown up with both parents.

Ozzy doesn't beat his kids.

I don't advocate beating, but there's nothing wrong with an occasional spank an the butt if the situation warrants it.

Ozzy tries to talk his kids out of drinking, partying, and drugs, et cetera, and freely uses himself as a negative example.

That makes him a good parent, seems kind of obvious doesn't it? How many parents do you know that encourage their kids to experiment with drugs?

Ozzy has always taken his family with him on tours so they could actually grow up as a family.

I bet hanging out with groupies and roadies is a great environment for kids.

Ozzy supports his kids in the things they try to do.

And what exactly do they want to do?

I'm an old fart, I'll admit it. I used to watch it everyday after school.

Now that show taught family values.

<< How many parents do you know that encourage their kids to experiment with drugs? >>

I know quite a few people whose parents buy them weed, and soemtimes herion and coke, and smoke/inject with them

riprorin: I was pointing out that Ozzy's a damn site better than a lot of parents, not necessarily that he's the best parent out there. At least he seems to care about his kids and is TRYING to rear them as well as he can. As for what the kids are trying to do, Jack at least is trying to start a record company.

Lord Evermore, I see your point. I haven't seen the show, but it sounds like he's doing his best. You have to give him credit for that.

It's too bad though that we aren't to exposed to parents who are real role models. Hard to sell that to the MTV crowd. Dysfunction sells.
