Here's a question I was wondering the other day... I've seen every kind of car modification imaginable (and dislike them all) but if you can customise every aspect of your car, why can't you get tyres that are a different colour from black?! We have the technology! We can can create blue / green / red rubber... So why not a car tyre?!

I'm happy to receive a quick answer that makes me look like an idiot, I'm just interested.

They make tires that produce colored smoke instead of white smoke.. That's probably the closest you can get.

As for colored tires, I imagine the money involved wouldn't make it worthwhile. Colored tires would could a ton more than regular black because so few people would buy them

Is your Google broken?

He kept misspelling it as "tyres" and got nothing. Apparently you were able to overcome your Britishness and get the right answer from Google.

My understanding was always that a lot of places made it illegal because of the colored burnout tracks that would result. Heh - imagine how confusing it would be to have a bunch of yellow or white lines painted down the road.

Yeah I've seen the smoke ones, but I'm sure people would buy them, people buy all sorts of crap, it can't be that much more expensive can it?!

been done, its awful

Pics?

A good point, I hadn't considered, But even the sides of the tyres I've not seen them being a different colour (except some old cars that have white sides) Also "tyres" isn't misspelling, it's the English way of spelling it.

Didn't some cars in the 50s have white on the sides of the tires? That was probably just painted on though.

Some manufacturers were going to make them in different colors but I remember reading that the police asked the tire companies to not do that. Something to do with gang members leaving their trademark colors everywhere on the road.

Being that the baller thing to do is eliminate the rubber and ride on the razor edge of the 22"+ wheel, there is no market for colored tires.

I've seen pictures of different colored tires, but never on the road.

This is the point I was making.

I have coloured tyres on my road bike and mountain bike, but it's just the sidewall.

I've had colored bicycle tires too. Years ago I had blue BMX tires and a buddy had white ones. I've also seen quite a few other colors for BMX bikes. Currently I have some cross-country semi-slicks on my mountain bike where the semi-slick center portion is red.
