PS... why doesn't the movie show up when I do a screenshot?
 
options -> performance -> advanced -> uncheck use overlays will allow you to take screenshots with WMP
 
I believe this has something to do with the fact that the video is not put into the output signal until it reaches the video card.

This is is the same reason why some cards will not display video on both monitors in a clone dual monitor setup.

I could be wrong though
 
I think it has to do with that the video is coming from a video card source and is using that RAM and when you take a screenshot everything that is captured is coming from system RAM so as far as the system is concerned there is no video in the system RAM.
 
I think you have to turn hardware acceleration all the way off to take screenshots.

I remember back in the day with mplayer2, you could get screenshots to work, just not every time.
