I don't want an integrated power supply.. heat = eventual melt down in the years of use.

Please.. blu ray.. also a keyboard / mouse peripheral. I basically have a gaming computer for the total war series because you need a kb / mouse to play it. Then I could just switch to an ipad for the internet and get rid of bulky desktop.
 
No need for BD support on the new console. I'd rather MS NOT pay Sony licensing fees. When the 360 and PS3 were announced, yes, BD was a great option. However now with cheap BD players, I don't see the point. It just adds an unnecessary cost to the console.

Now if MS needs a high density disc for their next gen console, HD-DVD may be a good option. It would be a good obstacle for piracy, and the discs should be able to be manufactured pretty cheaply.

What I DO want them to include is backwards compatibility. I know this has been discussed before, but I have quite a few unopened 360 games that I haven't had a chance to get to, and I'd like to just be able to get rid of my current 360 and just upgrade to the new console. That would free up a valuable HDMI port, and consolidate things for me.

I figured this out. They could even do this this generation.


Let the Kinect read QR codes. That way I can scan all my codes in.
 
i like the external power brick. it keeps the box cool and it lengthens the total cord length. i don't care that there is one plug that goes to the brick and then another cord that goes from the brick to the xbox. i don't want the box to weigh a ton anyways.

those were the two gripes that i had with my original xbox. it weighed a ton and mine eventually had to have the 80mm fan mod done to it to keep it cool.

i've had my 360 a little over a year and i can't ask for anything more. for me it is up there with the SNES.
 
I'd rather have my PSU outside of the main box. This way it can sit behind my entertainment center and not in it.

Have you ever seen the inside of a PS3? It looks like the inside of a dust buster.
 
I would love to have the option of a multi-disc changer. I get lazy when I play xbox and dont want to have to get up everytime I want to change games.

Keep the power brick out. I like the size and no worries over the heat.

Blueray? Not that big of a deal, I have a BR player no need for the extra cost that will come due to getting it from Sony.

Multiply that times a million units. Not such a small cost for MS to swallow. They have to hit a price point to sell units and every extra components eats into their profit margin.

Or better yet they could bundle something in with the console that let's you save your games from to discs to it, making the disc unnecessary. We shall call it a "hard drive". And Microsoft could simply not be dicks and insist on having the right disc in the drive EVERY time someone wants to play a different one of their games. If Microsoft is sweating bullets over millions of gamers playing their call of duty shit on xbox live off of a single disc saved to countless 360 harddrives all they'd have to do is check for the disc once every month or some shit. Not like they have ways of ensuring every game played online with a separate code is it's own copy either right? D:

blu-ray isn't a big deal. i picked up a BR player as a gift (MSRP <$100) and that is good enough for me. i don't need a BR player in every room of the house. most of my TVs are 720p. i'd rather not have it and not have to spend an additional amount that would end up with sony anyway. i've never owned a sony gaming console except for an original PS1 that i received for free (only played the original MoH).

i'd rather have HD-DVD if extra space is needed. it would cost less to the end user. the main issue would be additional complexity to the developers. but that is why they get paid the big bucks...

DRM would be easier with HD-DVD since it isn't supported by other media producers.

i really can't ask anything more from MS with the xbox. it supports cloud sharing. the controller is easy to use and is ergonomic; especially after the original controller on the original xbox (god, that thing sucked). great access to online media (netflix, hulu plus, youtube, etc.)

i'd like access to amazon's media. if the nextbox had access to the internet through IE i might even use it to browse the internet on my TV.

If they don't put a blu-ray player in it, you better hope they give a disc changer. Other wise you will be swapping out discs on all your games in the future.
 
Why are people mentioning disc changers? You think reliability of consoles is bad now? Disc changers are asking for trouble and will just increase packaging sizes for little benefit for most people. Like pointed out, just come up with a smart way of letting people rip games. They're actually already pretty close to that now, so I really don't know why some of you are going off about a multi-disc unit.

Then again, someone is complaining about external power bricks, so this thread seems to be more about people complaining about stuff that makes no sense.

A QR code or other "smart payment" system actually would be pretty great though. I sure as hell am not going to give a gaming company my credit card info any more. Both Microsoft and Sony have been horrendous about handling them correctly. If they'd use something like QR codes or NFC payments or something where you can swipe Live cards or things like that it'd be great.

You do know HD-DVD was cracked too, right? In fact it was cracked before Blu-Ray was by a pretty significant margin.

I don't even know what to say about you not wanting money to get to Sony. It very likely already happens (for instance they're adding a Crackle channel to Xbox Live - Sony owns Crackle).

Are you guys joking? HD-DVD wouldn't even be cheaper than Blu-Ray. There's been 4 years worth of economies of scale since HD-DVD bit the dust, and even back then, HD-DVD was marginally less expensive.

not (imo) what they mean. that's irrelevant. who the hell has a hd-dvd burner? they made a few but it's pretty much gone now. if they used hd-dvd as their media, there's no way to make dupes like you can now on dual layer dvds.

the only piracy method would be to rip the disk to a drive instead and that usually is harder than a disk backup method

it is harder, but it is happening on all 3 of the current gen consoles, so it can and will be done. i actually believe ps3 games were running off hdd BEFORE they were running off of actual copied bluray discs.
 
What MS needs to do is go to HD-DVD and call it VHS-HD for marketing purposes. VHS killed Beta and VHS-HD could kill blu-ray( Knee Jerk Reaction)
 
One thing I'd like to see (for either console) that was supposed to be a feature of the PS3 is dual HDMI out. Split screen multiplayer has become a lot more popular and it'd be nice to have a dedicated LCD for each player.

Or SLI/Xfire with 2 mid-range GPU's and quad monitor support. Quad core CPU means one core per multiplayer instance, and maybe an ARM chip for OS/dash duties. Single player games could take advantage of the extra horsepower and multiplayer games could each have their own dedicated output, I'm sure MLG would love the more simplified setup.

You could also powergate so the 2nd GPU/VRAM could sleep when playing less intensive games like XBLA/PSN downloadable titles. The quad CPU could also be shut off while the ARM chip takes over when on the dash or watching movies.

First, split screen local gaming has become less popular not more, with the rise of online gaming. Second, displaying a whole full screen game on each tv would be too intensive for the console unless they downscale each screen to low rez. Third, they've already talking about having dual GPU's in the new Playstation and turning off one when not needed. Fourth, this is an Xbox thread.

Show me where I said split screen local. I said split screen which includes both offline and online. Halo, Call of Duty, Gears of War, Borderlands to name a few. The fact that each Call of Duty released breaks the sales record of the previous one when they only have 4-6 hour single player campaigns proves that the multiplayer is the main selling point, and I think the ability to play online with friends on the same console has a lot to do with that.

Obviously it wouldn't be able to output to four 1080p monitors, but we're already used to most AAA titles not even being true 720p either, so I don't see that as an issue. I think most mainstream gamers would be fine with current gen level graphics or even 1024x600 upscaled to 720p on four monitors. I'd certainly be ok with that. If nothing else dual monitors is still a step up from what we have right now.

And the PS4 rumors are an A8 APU with an HD 7670, which is technically dual GPU (asymmetrical), but I'd be more interested in seeing a standard CPU + Xfire HD 6570's or even 7670's depending on the cost. And yes, I realize this is an Xbox thread, what's your point? I'd like to see both major consoles get multi display support.
