Well the important question then is why, because what you said is true, but it does not negate my point? My point is about bigotry, such as the bigotry that caused this thread to begin with, and has nothing to do with gays (at a time when gays in the US had a lot more to be afraid of) fearing the movie would portray them under an unfair light. Not all gays are into leather. In fact, most are not. Not all gays are drag queens, most are not. Not all gays are serial killers. In fact, I can't think of any. But gays at the time feared that this film would make those connections in the minds of the general public which was already plenty OK with discriminating against them.
