The old white van scam!!

Well, you would think that people after a few years would not fall for this scam anymore. The other day the old white van flagged me down in a parking lot with their absolutely incredible deal on speakers. I was in a super hurry or I would have jerked them around for awhile, but I had to go. Why are people still falling for this one?

if the white van is rockin
don't come knockin

People are stupid. when you combine this with greed via the "awsome deal", people fail to see the too good to be true setup.

The last time these guys approached me, I called them out on the scam and they got all offended like "No way man, these are the real deal!"

I was...amused. 😀

Never seen it before, but I prefer not to do business like that. I had a friend who bought an Axim and all kinds of accessories that way. Everything worked fine, but I didn't have the heart to tell him he paid too much for it.

i've been offered speakers from a white van...but i have yet to figure out the scam part

do they sell you blown speakers?
stolen speakers?
imitation speakers?
do they take your money and run without giving you any speakers?

do they kidnap you? assrape you?

is the white van speaker scam related to the bangbus dot com thing?

They're either or stolen, or bricks in a speaker box.

No, they're cheaply made POSes with flashy sales literature and 'retail values' $1000+ each speaker, but they are so kind as to let you buy them for about $75 each

Yup, that pretty much sums it up.

Not really a scam, as long as you actually get the speakers you thought you were getting it's your own damn fault if you overpay.

Oh, we call that XScargo. it's a B&M white van store, in that respect.

When i was in Junior High, that exact same thing happened to me during my lunch break.

I was actually thinking of doing it, cause i kept on refusing and i talked down the guy to $50 for the pair (he kept saying that they were $1000 speakers).

So glad i didn't fall for it

my friend claims to never get scammed and is a crazy cheap shopper.
however in college down in Atlanta a few year's ago, he got scammed by the white van guys.
a couple of weeks later though, he was out eating when he saw one of his friends getting the pitch by the white van guys in the parking lot of a fast food place.

my friend went over to talk to the friend and said he would get money out of the ATM for him. 😉
instead, he called the police from inside. then someone stalled the white van guys while talkign to them about the speakers.
police finally showed up and arrested the guys.

I've had it happen to me twice. One of the vans was green though. I was walking in the parking lot after class and started walking away once I said "no thanks" but the van matched my walking speed and kept driving right next to me while the guy in the side door tried to pitch his sale.

I really can't stand these people for a personal reason.

My brother (now deceased) was a little slow because of a genetic condition he had, which was obvious to people who met him. These people took advantage of his good nature and his disability to the tune of about $300 for a set of crappy speakers a few years before he died. I would like to have a few <ahem> polite <ahem> words with these outstanding folks.

Well, there's an old saying: "There's a sucker born every minute". With this being the case, there's plenty of customers for them.

True story:
I was driving to school, and these two guys in a black explorer drive up next to me while im driving 50mph down the road. The driver waves his hands wildly signalling me to open my window, and I do, thinking that there is something wrong. Then the guy proceeds to yell to me, while we are both driving at 50mph, that he has some awesome "home speakers" that he needs to sell fast and he wants me to pull over and look at him. I laughed and drove off of course... But seriously, how ridiculous is that?
