Sweet. I'm a Plex Pass member, so I'll check it out. I wonder if this also explains why Plex Pass subscription rates went up for all new subscribers. I just jumped on the $75 lifetime subscription before the price change, which also gets you free Android and Roku versions. Albeit, I don't actually use either of those devices. 😛

You don't use PLEX simply for streaming. You should more or less think of it as a simplified whole-home version of XBMC. For example, I can start up a movie on my phone, stop it, pick it up in the living room, stop it, pick it up in the bedroom, stop it, and pick it up on the phone again. Note that there's no difficulty in any of this apart from selecting to resume when I hit play. Also, PLEX handles the re-encoding based upon device profiles.
Well...I don't need that. All I would need is to be able to play a file off my PC like I do from my ps3.

This.

Standard DLNA streaming is nice (and it's nice it will be added too) but PLEX is an amazing app. It organizes and manages your library extremely well. It runs awesome from my NAS and my wife absolutely loves it vs. searching in folders. You don't have to be so diligent about organizing because PLEX takes care of that for you. Plus, it's great for mobile, tablets and other devices too. The PLEX pass also allows you to sync content to the cloud, which is nice if you travel.

SO happy this is out now. 🙂

I don't believe for one second that Plex is ever going to happen via Microsoft on an Xbox. Hell, if they did that I'd seriously consider buying one, but all the console companies have always sucked when it comes to allowing a decent media player. They want to lock you into their shitty DRM-infected video stores. That's why I'm going to build an HTPC.

Well I hope you are right, I will definitely follow developments in this area. I'm still going to be shocked if this leads to a console that can play a wide range of MKVs and ISOs.

Movie store apps (that let you buy different DRM-infected crap) are not useful.

So...three months later Xbox1 gets an official Plex app and a media player app with DNLA and MKV support. Maybe time to buy an Xbox1 this holiday season?

I gave the PLEX app a try, and it's not too shabby. It's definitely not just a port of the Windows 8 (Metro) version, which I use on my "touch HTPC". The app takes more of a Netflix-style approach and tries to suggest things to you when you delve into a library. For example, when I went into my TV section, it brought up recently aired shows (Gotham was front and center), shows I hadn't watched in a while, and since I've been getting caught up on Justified lately, it also showed me other FX shows. Of course, it still has the usual "On Deck" and latest additions on the front page.

Oh, then I guess those KI cases I started seeing at Best Buy and Wal-Mart were disc versions of Season 1? I just assumed it was the new season, since I hadn't seen them out in the wild before.

Are you sure it is tomorrow? Everything I can see points to it being today, and Tuesday is software release day; Wednesday is new comic day.

Media Player DLNA and MKV support – The latest version of the Media Player app will now have support for DLNA streaming. With this update, you will be able to easily access and play music, watch photo slideshows or movies stored on home media servers and devices that support the DLNA server protocols. Additionally, you will now be able to playback MKV files stored on a USB device or a device on your home network that supports DLNA streaming.

Thank goodness. I've been waiting for this since the original release. And I just this past weekend happened to have finished setting up my raspberry pi as a media server with minidlna.

Nice to see that the Xbox one got dlna support. What is Sony doing with their updates? Nothing but stability fix, stability fix, share factory, stability fix.

I don't get it, my ps4 never had any stability issues before these updates. I wish they would release dlna support already. Tired of having to keep my ps3 hooked up just for that.

It is interesting the different paths the Xbox and the PS4 have taken. The Xbox has had a number of nice updates whereas the PS4 hasn't really changed too much except for the new major update coming out which will improve the console. The Xbox did need the updates more but still, it's nice having a little update every month that adds some new feature. If Microsoft hadn't botched the launch campaign, I think the Xbox would be a lot stronger right now but it's hard to overcome that horrible PR. The PS4 does have slightly better graphics, but that shouldn't matter much when the consoles become more mainstream.

I still think Microsoft should go for the kill though and drop the base price to $300 this holiday season. They have billions to burn and Sony is weak financially. Sony would have to drop the price of the PS4 to $300 to match and that loss of revenue is more meaningful to them. I don't think it will happen as stock holders are still uneasy about the Xbox division but Microsoft needs to make a large move.

was just playing ki season2 for like 3 hours, only wanted to play for like an hour so i could sleep early 🙁

god damn combo is so much fun!

The last update is nice, makes it much eassier to record gameplay without Kinnect, before I had to push the XB button and switch to the snapped tile to click record, now just double push the XB button and press X. Now we just need screenshots.

Hi guys, I bought an xb1 this past September. I registered the device and the Microsoft site states that my warranty expires on March 15, 2015.
I thought it had a year warranty, any idea whats happening with my warranty?

That's odd so many other electronics offer 1 year from the company anything else you pay extra for.
I just checked the website and you do have 1 year for the system but only 90 days for accessories. I know they wouldn't replace my controller that went bad through the warranty, they wanted me to pay $60 for a new day one edition controller since it was past 90days. I figured the system was the same but apparently not.

So they are dropping the price of the Xbox one by $50 and also offering susnset over drive bundle. I may think about picking one up for exclusive games, even though I definately don't need two consoles or have a place to put a second one.
