Can't say I am excited about the new TR. I wasn't a huge fan of the reboot, but then again I wasn't a huge fan of the old TR games either. It was a great concept (Indy with boobs!), but it just wasn't great.


Strangely, I am looking forward to the next COD. It isn't a terrible WW2 FPS or a modern one either. That might be interesting.

With native MKV file support. I wonder if it would be possible to create a Video organization application like Kodi and have it run natively on X1 now. That would be killer.

Aren't XB1 apps very similar to the Windows 8 apps? Plex, for example, has a decent app for windows 8 and I believe is working on an app for XB1.

I agree but some of those titles are PC buys for me. The evil within, dragon age, middle earth shadow of mordor, gta5, far cry 4 on PC. Others like destiny and assassins creed ps4 buys because I have a pretty huge friend list on ps4 now comparatively.

Plex isn't working on a X1 app, a third-party developer announced he had gotten permission to develop a Plex app from Microsoft. Then he went dark after a month or two. It's always possible Plex told him he couldn't do it because they were working on an app.

The main thing, I think, is how much control Microsoft is exerting over the app catalog. A Plex app would be nice, but having an app that would index files on a remote system (a nas) and play back files directly without an extra computer stuck in there somewhere. And I think Microsoft would have to say OK to that first.

Based upon that list of updates, one thing that I would love to see, which should be in the realm of possibilities, is a version of Windows Media Center brought to the XBOX One. Microsoft pretty much shafted all WMC users when they shuttered the development team, but the software is pretty much the only viable solution because nothing else supports premium channels (e.g. HBO). I have an Ethernet-based tuner, which would be easily accessible for my XBOX One... especially since it sits right beside said tuner.

I don't know what the IGN article says, but I read about this on Ars. Ars's original article just noted that Geometry Wars was by some developer that just does mobile games; however, said developer is actually comprised of old Bizarre Creations staff! D:

I could probably give a short explanation on it all (Bold+Underline = Getting, Underline = Maybe).

Middle-earth: I kind of want it, but with so many other games I want more, I might just let it pass and wait for the next Elder Scrolls or something.
NBA: I haven't gotten one since 2K12, and I barely played it, so I'm overdue for a basketball gam.
Alien: Not looked at it, don't feel any need to.
Far Cry: Never played the others, so I'll pass here.
Diablo: Like FC4, I never played the predecessors, and the dungeon crawling just doesn't intrigue me.
Happy Wars: Tried it on 360, didn't like it.
Ori: Atmospheric platformer #700, pass.
LEGO Batman: Didn't play the others, don't care about Batman, haven't played one of those games since maybe the second LEGO Star Wars.
Fantasia: Not a singer.
Madden: Getting it with Best Buy's trade-in thing, haven't played one since Madden 12 or purchased one since Madden 08, so definitely a long time coming.
Destiny: The beta didn't really impress me, and there's a lot coming, so I might get it early-2015 or something. Maybe they'll have a combo pack when the second DLC launches?
NHL: Not big on hockey.
Dragon Age: Never played the others.
CoD: Undecided on this. I've yet to watch the multiplayer trailer, but I'm hearing good things. I'll probably get Halo at launch, then CoD after the Halo 5 beta ends in mid-January or something.
Forza: I'll compare this and The Crew then get just one of them.
Halo: Unquestionably in for all 4 games and a show at $60.
Sunset Overdrive: I'll probably get this as a Christmas gift, since I'll have Halo, Madden, The Golf Club, and a racer taking time out.
FIFA: I'll get it if they have a trade-up option for it like with Madden, but I'm not a big soccer fan, so I wouldn't want it at $48--maybe $20-30.
Just Dance: Not a dancer.
Unity: I'd get it if they put the prequels on the One so I could get the whole story. I could also opt to get the whole series on PC instead, but for right now, I'll pass.
The Evil Within: I'll probably get it after a $20 price drop or something, if the reviews are good.
GTA V: I hate the franchise, and the plentiful amount of gameplay I saw of it didn't change my mind.
Fable: Never played the others, demo at E3 didn't impress me.
Project Spark: Played the beta, immediately didn't care for it. I'd maybe get the free version to try others' mini-games, but I wouldn't buy or build anything.
Killer Instinct: I'm not big on fighting games, and I've yet to bother trying the free version. If I ever do, and I like it, I'd consider a digital purchase if they have a deal on some kind of combo pack of both seasons for $40.
The Crew: Like Horizon, I'll compare the two games, then pick just one to purchase.
Dance Central: Still not a dancer.
Skylanders: Too much of a cash sink. I'd get Infinity if it wasn't Marvel-based.
Metro: I already bought Last Light on PC for $18 (though never played it), and could buy 2033 for $5 on a Steam Sale, if I wanted. No incentive to spend $40-50 for the "redux" option.

Sorry, man. I was a long-time proponent of WMC, dating back to 2005. Loved it. Still think its the best interface for a DVR system. But the writing has been on the wall ever since Wndows 7 was released with no changes to WMC. Its dead. Opening up cablecard was simply "well I guess we're not doing anything with this" and God bless Ceton for trying to keep the blood pumping, but WMC is so done. The exclusion of an extender app in the X1 should be a loud and clear message. Especially since Extenders are essentially RDP sessions for the interface and all the work for the video streaming part is definitely done already.

I moved on, sadly. Every once in a while I think to myself how nice it would be to break out a box and try to get it up and going again but I think to myself "If Microsoft doesn't care, why should I?" Anyways, the amount of people yelling for a MCX on X1 is tiny. An extremely vocal tiny number, but tiny. I'd imagine MS wouldn't run out of rows in an Excel spreadsheet tracking the requests.

just read the update about file capability on it and thought the same way. if it doesn't get WMC there is about a 0% chance I buy one.

Yep...this means I can wait and get it in PC. Awesome...

What this also means for square and it is good for them, is that Rise of Tomb Raider is not competing with Uncharted 4 if it happens to hit the holiday 2015 window as well. They will be able to release it 6-12 months or whatever later without people saying "I like uncharted better so I will buy that and maybe get tomb raider when it is cheaper". They can release it during a time that sees few games releasing and get better sales because of it.

Yep, honestly this is a GREAT move by SE, they get a pile of extra cash AND can hold their biggest selling platform to a time when the game won't get steamrolled by holiday releases and Uncharted. It's sort of amazing in a way.

The release date is one of the most important things in a games success or failure.

Considering that Microsoft didn't outright buy the title, or permanent exclusivity, that means that SE would be crazy not to port it to other consoles. It's already cross-gen, so that means the assets will be easily portable already as opposed to being specifically developed directly to a particular console's hardware.

PS4 basically guaranteed, PS3 probable, PC decent possibility. And if you want to play it day 1, then 360/XB1.

I think the decision was stupid. Tomb Raider 2013's best selling platform was the PS3, and the PS4 outsold Xbox One 2:1. A game's hype is highest around it's launch, and generally sales on games that are ported over later, are lower on the neglected platform (I'm basing this idea off past examples like Mass Effect).

I know that Square-Enix didn't want the game to compete directly against Uncharted, but I still think this timed-exclusivity bit is going to cost them a lot of sales. It might have been smarter to just do a cross-platform release outside of Uncharted's release window.

For MS, there's already this perception that they're bad for the gaming community, and I don't think they're winning any fans over by purchasing timed-exclusivity deals on games that would otherwise have a multiplatform release. It makes me want to root against Xbox One sales numbers, more than ever, so that their install base will be small enough that 3rd party publishers won't be tempted into taking MS bribes anymore. I'm sure that's not the desired effect MS was looking for.

I think part of the reason for the content IS Bungie's past. They're probably doing this stuff for the PS4, in part, to show that there is a strong desire to get users from that platform into the game. If they did exclusive content with the One, everyone would think Bungie was still all about Microsoft. Even if there were identical releases, you'd have complaints that going to the PS4 is a money-grabbing port, and that the company is still more-interested in Microsoft's stuff.

Most of this and the rest that you said is baseless and formed on the basis of opinions of the wrong people.

Look there is bad blood and tech "outrage" that spills into the general market. The 2 months of festering and the 6 months of PS guys pointing back to an NDA'd doc allowed the "outrage" to boil to the point that a normal consumers heard something about how bad the Bone was and was going to take away their games. On top of that this 50% more shader crap that implies that the PS4 will look twice as good as the bone. That kind of outrage and simplification will work on the general populace.

The "whaaaaaah" I can't get game on my console console doesn't really generate hate, well not enough, to have any real affect. Mostly because the other side is usually just playing but hurt that a game they didn't plan on purchasing won't show up in their systems. Then there are tons of "pre-order" and console specific content issues that are in my opinion worse. Forced to by unreturnable software before a true assesment can be made by others of the quality making it impossible to do your due diligence as a purchaser. The other paying the same company the same money for what should be the same game and being told your money isn't worth as much because your consoles manufacturer wasn't as nice to them.

You just need to look at examples like the Destiny xbone outrage, the Sunset Overdrive outrage, and so on.

In the end PS4 players will look at their isle, not find TR and won't by it. Xbone players will look at their isle and find TR and decide whether to buy it. For people who liked TR and on the fence they will buy the console for it. Most "internet" ragers will wait till the eventual PC release or if its just a timed release the PS4 version in 16 or 17, and purchase it whether or not they were boycotting a game they couldn't have purchased in the first place.

I was responding to the premise of the the other statement, which was that Microsoft's reputation was hurt due to its "bribing" third party developers into providing exclusive content for its console. The scale is irrelevant. It doesn't matter whether we are talking about a suit of cosmetic armor or an entire game. The simple fact is that Sony is compensating Bungie in some fashion for the exclusive content being provided; therefore, it is ethically equivelant to what MS is doing. I'll go further to say that it's highly likely Sony tried to make Destiny a Playstation exclusive similar to what MS is doing with Tomb Raider, but Bungie bulked at it.

Sony and MS both engage in this practice regularly. It just so happens MS is better at it or at least has deep enough pockets to lure developers. What I find laughable is how is how the other side, whichever side that is, always likes to channel Richard Nixon, basically saying that it's only wrong when it's the other side doing it.

The real fault lies with publishers and developers who take the money and then say BS to fans like "we are trying to make the best tomb raider experience".

Also in regard to destiny I believe it is in the contract from Activision and bungie that the game must release on Xbox. They can't exclusive the game at all.
