Well if it is true, +1 for them..sort of. I imagine due to what it is, you will have to be behind the paywall to use it, even if you only stream local.

Since we can do this basically free on every other platform...I don't know how "great" it is. But it will be nice to see them expanding.

Apparently, that's just some third-party dude who's developing a PLEX app for the X1 based on PLEX Home Theater's (the desktop software) source code.

They just need to have a generic DLNA browser built into the OS somewhere. Whether it's a streaming app or part of the Xbox Video app.

If this isn't BS and if it would actually support all the media formats that full-blown Plex does, I'd be very interested in this. But I'm skeptical since the media support on consoles has historically sucked (no MKV, ISO, etc).

I doubt it will because it will most likely be very similar to the Metro-based apps on Windows 8. I have a touch-based Windows 8 HTPC, and all of my media has to be transcoded by PLEX if I use the Metro app. Actually, the video stream is fine, but as you'd expect, it doesn't handle MKVs. That means it has to be remuxed into a MP4 with burned-in subtitles. The latter is the worst in regard to anime, which is pretty much butchered compared to SSA.

Have you tried VLC?

that is actually great news that they aren't trying to force you to use the skydrive or whatever it is called. it was a huge PITA to upload to that, then download video, then upload to youtube.

After one night of playing Titanfall, there are a couple of glaringly-annoying things on the One, in my opinion:

1. If you don't use the Kinect, it won't log you in automatically. They need to add back the 360 functionality of having a "default" profile. I mean, mine if the ONLY profile on the console, yet I have to tell it to log me in every time. It's not a long process, but it's a process I'd rather avoid.

2. I wish they had a Task Manager or something. I don't like backing out of something, only to end up back in an app/setting I was in 2 hours before, but didn't want left open.

On the other hand, I really like the controller. Most of it's just fine as it is, but I don't think that anything's worse (maybe the feel of the Home button is a bit worse than the feel of the 360's Guide button). However, I REALLY like the new sticks, and how they have almost no tension. It makes the small movements a lot smoother, IMO.

So, if they allowed Windows 8 apps would we be getting vlc or something? That would be amazing. Full blown media center then.

There are updates for the controller but you have to hook it up to a USB cable to install

Yeah, yet they wouldn't include a cable...they're really stupid about some thing. Not everyone wants that $25 Play & Charge scam, meaning we have to get a phone charger (assuming it's not an iOS-filled house) and update that way.

Congrats on achieving Eliteness Thorn 🙂.

I'm beginning to wonder if there's some redundant or additional/longer circuitry on the FCPGA slotkets that the PPGA ones don't have. The fact that you have to set a jumper on the Abit Slotket!!! to select between FCPGA-PPGA operation would indicate that there's some additional pathways that could cause instability, not to mention what happens to the signal at the jumper itself.

Wtf no cable at all? That's retarded

The cable comes with the headset adapter or use the one that comes with your phone. Everything except the iPhone uses one. Hell, go buy one for a couple bux(amazon sells them for about $5). The controller updates aren't required anyway and I'll bet they never had planned to do firmware updates for the controller so they would be including it for what purpose at that point?
