I hope they fix that (I don't even know if this can be fixed via software). It is annoying when my GF is done watching Netflix or Hulu (she uses the smartTV apps) and I want to play Xbox and it turns off my TV.

It would probably be fixed easier with a few more granular commands like "Xbox TV On" or "Xbox Console On". That way you wouldn't have to determine the current state of one of the media components somehow.
 
Nah the absoluie easiest way is to send a power on command for "Xbox On" and then a power off command for "xbox turn off".

On my harmony remote every one of my devices has 3 power commands. I have a power on, a power off, and a power toggle.

Do you mean send a command that means only and explicitly to power on? What do you do with a television that only accepts one signal that it itself then uses as a toggle?

I think he means like a harmony remote is smart enough to know when to turn a device on or off using the "toggle power" command, because it already "knows" that the device is on or off.

How does it know that? Does it store whether or not it has already sent an initial command so there is no need to send another one if someone presses the power on command again? Or does it actually determine the current on/off state of the device?

I ask because the latter seems difficult to determine while the former doesn't entirely prevent errant commands from being sent.

Well with the harmony it sends the power toggle command when you activate an activity. When that activity is active the remote knows which devices are on and in use so it can send a power off command to specific devices and also the power on command. On the touch screen I have buttons for power on/off, and power toggle. I believe when a device does not power on properly and you use the help command it will send a power on command to try and trigger the device(s) that are not on and setup.

When you switch an activity you have the option of turning off any devices which are not part of that activity. For example if you were switching from cable tv to blue-ray it would send the power off command to your cable box and the power on command to your blu-ray player.

I haven't tried that because I have it set to leave everything on. Maybe someone else knows.

If not I can test this tonight and give you an answer. I just have to change the option from leave on to turn off and see what happens, but I will not be home until way later.
 
I just made it to the section after you topple the tower on the beach in Ryse, that level with the water and trees is the best looking game I have ever seen

Basically, you're line of questioning is right. As far as I know, TVs don't necessarily have separate codes for power on, power off and then just a general power toggle. They all get a single power code and if the TV is on, it goes off. If it's off, it goes on.

If I'm correct in this (and I have no idea if I am), then the Harmony remotes suffer from the same exact problem the Xbox One does...they don't actively know if the TV is on or off, just what it last told it to do.

Assuming the cable box only has "toggle" power codes, then the state the Harmony thinks the cable box is in will be out of sync with reality, and it won't do the right thing. But the problem is easily fixable by using the help button on the Harmony.
 
I was playing with my 8-month old daughter in the floor this morning and had picked her up where she was basically looking right into the Kinect. It logged my wife in when it saw my daughter, however my wife was still in the bed. I guess that solves the question on who my daughter looks like more. 🙁

It isn't the device that has toggle it is the remote. It can send a toggle command if necessary which will attempt to turn on or off the device if it is not in the correct state. It doesn't actively know it just goes by the active activity. If I manually turn everything off the remote thinks it is still on and you would need to press help.

Costco has a set of 8 AA, 4 AAA, and a charger. The price usually hovers somewhere between $20 and $30.
 
Those enerloop batteries are the real deal I've been using mine for over a year and they still work great. I traded my ps4 with NBA 2k14 and bf4 for a xbox one and bf4 today. God I missed the controller this one controller is great
 
just got 1000/1000 on max curse of brotherhood. i'm sad that i really have nothing left to do in that game. it's just a lot of fun.
 
Is anyone else having issues resuming the XBOX ONE from standby?

Sometimes Kinect IR functionality simply doesn't work coming out of standby. Voice commands work fine, but the IR control is basically not working at all. My TV/cable box won't turn on automatically or respond to any commands from Kinect.

The only way to fix this is with a full reboot of the system. For now I have this fast startup disabled until they fix this as it is rather annoying to have to get up to restart the console.
