just got the email about the updated shipping date for the x1. i really hope madcatz talks about the release date of the te2 soon. i want to know if it's coming out at launch or not and how much it costs, and if so where i can preorder it.

Well...I will be honest...I want them to promote the games. I don't really see a bunch of people buying them for the NFL and media stuff will help sell games. However, those who play games know the Xbox one will have games lol. No need to preach to the choir on that one.

i think it's great to show off features other than games. everyone and their mom knows that xbox/playstation/nintendo are for playing games. what they don't know about are all of the other features.

it's the same thing that apple does with their phone. they show people using it for other features - facetime, listening to music, etc. everyone already knows you can make phone calls and text messages with it. there marketing is obviously genius due to their success.

then you have android where they have robots and chicks in leather riding motorcycles, then at the end show the phone. like wtf does your phone do, and what does a robot or hot chick have to do with it?

so yeah i personally think it's a smart move.

my point is to sell things you have to show people what they can do that aren't obvious. gaming on a console is obvious. talking on a phone is obvious. texting on a phone is obvious.

Essentially both phones can do the same thing. They should show off different features of the s4 like the motion detection of video stopping when you look away, autoscroll when you read an article, face recognition, other stuff.

Anyone getting Forza going for the Madcatz wheel? I've been looking at it, it looks decent. I hope its used for games like Formula 1 and maintains support, especially since it looks like it'll be expensive.

I don't see a problem with the ad, it's the start of football season and they're trying to entice people that watch the NFL to pick this up. I still don't see the draw of the skype/fantasy football/XBone on stuff.

I get pissed when my wife bothers me during the game let alone making the game tiny in a corner while I look at some douchebag's face.

The problem I have with the XB1 in general is the heavy emphasis on everything else besides gaming. I have serious doubts that they take gaming serious and will compromise that experience in favor of features that I do not want to pay for. All of these extras take money away from R&D, hardware and software. Just look at how the system has to run multiple OS to support everything.

Definitely NOT. I bought an Apple TV instead and it works great. Now I hardly touch the Xbox. Good going MS. It is indeed a double edge sword.

I don't understand this concern. Microsoft is adding the extra functionality, game developers will take care of the games. How do you expect them to "compromise" the gaming experience? These new features only add to the gaming experience. Kinect with every console? That only gives more options to games with voice and (hate it or love it) motion. Multiple operating systems? Makes it quicker to hop into and out of games. HDMI pass-through? You might not use it but it can allow you to get into the X1 ecosystem quicker.

It's not like Activision is going to say, "Look at all this TV shit, we're not developing CoD for it." It's not like Microsoft is going to say, "Screw going after this game as an exclusive, we have NFL fantasy football for them to enjoy." They aren't suddenly going to quit making Halo because they feel you'd rather watch Netflix.

I think the problem MS faces on this front is just how prolific those "smart" tvs are.

There is a market there for media consumption though, we saw it with the PS3 and how many people purchased one for the bluray playback. I don't know if there's that kind of demand for skype/xbox stuff.

I think the paywall hurts them in the non-gaming market. It's tough to sell a monthly subscription to someone that just wants to watch Netflix and already pays for that. It'll be interesting to see it all turn out.

I don't really think those kinds of things appeal to the typical gamer that purchases and XBone, but perhaps I'm wrong. Those ads simply seem to be trying to appeal to a market outside of gaming.

yeah but i don't think they are trying to target non-gamers who are just nfl fans. i think it's people who are games and nfl fans. at least that is what i take away from it. just like the iphone isn't trying to target people who only listen to music or want to facetime, but people who also talk/text and want to do that.

I get it though, MS really doesn't want to be a gaming console maker, they would rather take over all digital media/advertising and that's their real goal. They are playing catch-up in so many other markets like search and mobile so they might as well get a lead in the set top box which Google and Apple figure out how to compete as well. It's not like AppleTV or GoogleTV are making any huge strides yet.

The fact that BF4 runs at 720p instead of 1080p should be proof that the expense of the "other features" caused them to choose lesser hardware.

IMO 1080p makes a huge difference in FPS on a 60"+ television.

No, if that was the case, then the PS4 wouldn't have nearly the same hardware. Either company didn't want to lose money on the systems from the get go with crazy expensive hardware. They wanted to make money from the start. I'm sure they could run Battlefield 4 at 1080p with 30fps and only 32 players on maps, but I'm glad they chose to target 60fps and 64 players.

I am glad you know Microsoft's financial risk with the xb1 and their entire plan.

Sure, but how many of us have 60"+ televisions? I'd be willing to bet the standard is easily between 42-47". Plus, most consoles player don't care about resolutions and frames per second. I feel like if you're counting pixels on a console game, you're better off playing games on the PC and ignoring consoles altogether.
