The Official Wrestling Thread

Didn't see a wrestling thread around so I went ahead and made one.

This is to discuss sports entertainment events which are incorrectly called professional wrestling. This includes promotions such as WWE, TNA, etc.

So start discussing: What did you think about the latest PPV? How about the latest TV show? Who do you like and dislike and why? What do you think about the current storylines?

Used to watch a lot during the "attitude era", but hate it now. Cena's stale, and it's the same people in the main events. I hate the fact that Lesnar's the champ, but he's not even there.

TNA's worse.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. Its current state is pretty sad.

If "professional wrestling" is inaccurate, so is "sports entertainment."

I 'watch' Raw and Smackdown, or more like have it on while I am gaming, and glance over to see what it has devolved to lately. I was more of a fan of smaller orgs like ROH (Ring Of Honor). Briscoe Brothers, El Generico, Kevin Steen .. those guys were allowed a move-set that is very similar to D-Brians. Amazing wrestling - more like the WWE days from around 2000 where it was edgy and decidedly not so PG era.

Sadly, WWE saw how good some of those guys were and snatched up El Generico (now wrestling in NXT developmental as Sami Zayn) and Kevin Steen (also in NXT) and you will see them in WWE soon (hopefully).

Many of the current WWE superstars, Daniel Brian (Brian Danielson in ROH), Eddy Guerrero, Cesaro (Claudio Castagnoli) or retired ones (CM Punk) all came from ROH.

Here's a match featuring El Generico and Steen that puts current WWE matches to shame.

Note that neither guy will be ANYTHING like the character in that ROH match. WWE will eliminate a number of their finishers to prevent injury (no more pile drivers, chair shots to the head, or blood for WWE !!). You will also see D-Brian scale back his move-set once he returns to keep from a career ending injury (remember Edge ??)

Even though the piledrivers and things like that are sometimes missed, you do have to realize that they put their bodies on the line to entertain us.

If "professional wrestling" is inaccurate, so is "sports entertainment."
Sport (or sports) is all forms of usually competitive physical activity which, through casual or organized participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing entertainment to participants, and in some cases, spectators.

Pretty much sums up the "sports" part of sports entertainment.

This thread is to enjoy/talk about sports entertainment. If you don't like it you are free to leave 🙂

Survivor Series has to be the worst PPV I've ever seen (so much filler) redeemed by that single moment.
Really digging Lucha Underground. Hopefully TNA's new TV deal doesn't turn it into a glorified indie fed. They started to turn the ship around.

The week I'm busy with Smash Bros is the one of podcasts and big news.
