I like what Microsoft is doing with regards to OEM requirements. Standardized button placement, mandatory camera button (that will jump the device straight to the camera even if it is locked), and the fact that they are testing all the devices themselves before release to make sure they meet the quality standards.
I can understand their reasons for not making their own handset, but I really wish they would, the ZuneHD is a very nice piece of kit.
And Anand was right in his review, if Microsoft doesn't get Zune for Mac out stat, with all the features of the PC version (wireless syncing to name one) then they are cutting off their nose to spite their face.

I hate to disappoint you, since you seem to get especially excited when there's a chance to bash Samsung, but Engadget just posted their full review of the Focus and said there are absolutely no GPS lock issues like on Galaxy S phones.
This would make me move to the Focus then - but I've seen another review that stated they had issues with the GPS. Hopefully we'll see a few more over the weeks to make a good decision.
It should work just fine since it isn't Samsung's hardware except for the screen and a lot of the software support is from MS, not the phone manufacturer's.
I think the only part that sucks at the launch is that only one GPU is supported (Adreno 200). There are better options than the Snapdragon, but the only one, as far as I know, that is compatible with WP7 at launch.
Since Microsoft has such a lockdown on the hardware and software of these Windows Phone phones, how does the battery life compare to the iPhone? Is it better?

I have seen conficting information on the focus. Is it 256meg or 512 megs of ram I have seen listed both ways. If it is 512 I will get it launch day. Also since it SD card does a raid 0 with internal storage what would be the minum class SD card to use with it?
Engadget corrected their review to 512 RAM and 1 GB ROM - which they got from Samsung.
And supposedly Class 6 is the minimum you can use.
Just so you know, Engadget reported that a colleague of theirs had issues with the SD card on his Focus.

I guess with AT&T the Focus is the phone to go with, though I'm disappointed by how cheap it supposedly feels. I really would love WP7S phone (that is so awkward to say, windows phone 7 series phone) which was made out of metal or at least held to a really high quality standard.

I believe Microsoft dropped the "Series" in the name. Also, the Samsung Omnia 7 looks so much better than the Focus. (Both were on the Engadget Show)

I'm not sure what to think, to be honest. I think the 3G & 3GS felt cheap, as did a few reviewers - but it was still sturdy. I think that's the case we're going to see with the Focus ...
Isn't the only difference between the Omnia and Focus just the materials?
It sure is lame that the US seems to be getting the cheap versions of the phones. The same goes for the LG Quantum vs the Optimus 7.
Why is it lame? Do you think these companies hate America? No, they know that Americans care more about price than quality.
Also has a lot to do with how they purchase phones overseas - typically they're purchased outright as opposed to a commitment via contract. Factors like build quality and such then weigh in heavily on consumers because you don't buy a $500 device every year and you need it to hold up.

Much like Android, I dont think I want a first gen of anything new.
I had the G1 for a week and turned it in. A year later I got the Droid from Verizon. By that time enough issues had been fixed that I felt comfortable laying out hundreds of dollars and indenturing myself for 12 months.
Same with this. While things look promising and I admit I am tempted to jump in (especially after Anands review) I think I will wait a year. I am not rich and cant afford to own multiple expensive phones especially if one of them is practically a beta version. It seems as if purchasers of the newest platform are really just paying for the opportunity to be field testers. And since there will be plenty of those, I know MS will get all the bugs out soon. And then I can jump in with better hardware and software and probably better prices.
Just like I did with Android.
And since I just found out I can use my Droid without service like a PDA, I am in no hurry to sign on with any carrier at the moment. When my contract expires in November I will buy a Tracfone and contain my nerd urges for a few months.
