Sending 4 PCI video cards (various styles...out of 486 Gateway PC's), 1 stick of 32M PC100 and 1 stick of 64M PC100 as I type this.

more...more...more.....:Q

We really need to get this project in HIGH ATTENTION as it should really be a great selling point (and fun too) for the TeAm! :D

Will this help? Use a second floppy? A shared network drive? Load into memory??? Beowolf .. having trouble finding that breed in the AKC listings... checking sub-breeds.

Thanks everyone for your donations! I have great news (credit to Networkman for the advice):

I just took home.. yes their sitting in my back room, 16 computers I transported from my work place and another local business. I don't know the speeds of these machines, but I know 95% have network cards and the like! :)

Better in my junk box then in the land fill. :D Come good CD-ROMs too!

Then I get one of those looks from my wife, "what are you doing with all of that?"

P/S definitely, RAM is always on order so you can include that also if you can't use it.

PM me if you haven't received the shipping address.

Thanks M2kewl!

As soon as my Home Depot stock hits the price I bought it at ( way back in sep of 2001 @ split adjusted $32.15 ) I will sell it and pickup some stuff for the project. Please PM me with what is desperately needed.

My @home stock is worth $5.49 total. Maybe I should sell it and pickup a cooling fan :D

Well, I have to say that I am impressed with this forum and the gumption that the members have. I think that it is really amazing that people from all over the world are working to build something like this. A machine that most of us will only see pictures of. When I first saw this thread I will admit I was very skeptical that this would get very far. But here you are two weeks later and have already assembled a long list of pledged parts. I guess this thing will get built. All this energy expent just to search for Martians, amazing!. If only this could be done for curing cancer, AIDS, and other deadly ailments.

This "community" has proven itself before as capable of coming together for all kinds of causes. A few years ago I ran into some people that ran a shelter for alcoholic women in/near downtown Los Angeles and thier computer network was in shambles. I made a simple request to see if anyone would help out with some parts to make tham a server and when all was said and done they had one heck of a server running the shelter all from generous donations and spare parts. :) That is why this TeAm is the best..... period.

Poritz, for this reason(and others), that's why I switched my primary project to Folding@Home. :) I still do S@H and will continue to support our efforts, but you're right in that there are MANY projects deserving of the same efforts. Perhaps, we need only find someone willing(and able) to host such an effort at their place. ;)

If my proposal(at local business) gets approved, I may be able to do this. :D

I've got a bunch of extra power supplies, but I don't know if they'd be enough for a dual celery rig like this. What's the cut-off line for wattage for one of these nodes?

145W ATX PS run these boards - like I said way back in this thread, I have my BP6s running on 145W PS. I don't think I'd put anything less than that on them especially if they are overclocked. :)

I am willing! It is only the able part that prevents me. I only wish I knew enough about networking, unix, and programing to be able to host a similar project. All three of those thing I know extremely little about. I just try to keep up with hardware, and that can be confusing enough. I have tried to learn C but I just don't have the patience to sit infront of a screen that long. Programming impressed me as being a tedious, long and frustrating process. I said to myself "I am a vocal music major, for pete's sake!" I have tried to learn linux before and that ended in a catastrophe. Networking is just way to confusing. Computer books for some reason assume that the person already has an advanced degree in field and I could not get past the introduction. Ah, If I only the force were with me:(

Just a reminder that we still need quite a few BP6's and chips. It appears that all else will be covered fairly well. If you know anyone that has or is about to retire a BP6 let them know about our project.

Bump me. My WTB: BP6's thread in FS/FT.

Stupid question, but How much should I be paying for these including shipping to Lanman?

Will the setup still work with say, 400 or 500 mhz celly's? Or do they have to be 550's?
