Maybe. It really depends how some of your governing officials get elected. If you're in a heavy democratic party area with closed primaries, sometimes the primary is the de facto election, so it can be worthwhile to be registered Democrat.Just my friendly reminder that if you're in a red state, change your party registration to Republican to make it harder to purge you.
Vote for the least crazy Republican in the primary, then swing Dem in the general.
