Yeah but do we know how all those suspended or running process in the background are affecting game playing? Just a question. I don't care for suspended processes, I can live with 1 or 2 knowing you might tab out.

What do you mean? You can only have one game running at a time. Netflix isn't using more than a couple megs if that. Your PC doesn't have trouble with a web browser open while playing a game so why should this be different? Memory allocation seems to be handled well. The xb1 I expect to be the same way.

I close all my browser windows before launching games...haha, jk. It's fine I just don't agree with it at this time, coming from a programmer multi threaded programming can get tricky, even if they're only a few MB, sometimes the threads request background focus to stay alive or make update requests. Like, facebook may want ask for new data every 5 minutes (now multiply this by all the other little apps "suspended"/running in the background). Will you care if BF4 stutters for a frame and you died because of it?

For example earlier in this thread you can see people talking about AC4 freezing and stuttering because it was still downloading in the background. I can live with that and may not be related to other processes running in the background.

I'm sure sony handled all that nonsense, I'm just one gamer that doesn't care to hot swap between applications and have them load super fast and/or have notificaitons.

Actually I'm not sure how fast the ps4 boots up compared to the ps3. It still takes some time to register being connected to the tv and then I have to log on. I should probably have it auto log me in.

Same here. The 360 UI got so overloaded and cumbersome with crap that it just became a chore. I push the PS button on my controller and it's just ON. Like RIGHT NOW. Pretty amazing.

Meanwhile, I keep seeing these videos about how the Xbone can start up in 13 seconds ... from standby mode

Start-up time isn't a big deal really I just think it's funny. I love the PS4's UI. Games start instantly. The system starts instantly. The UI is crisp, simple, elegant, and to the point.

Oh yeah and my downloads have been sick fast too.

Same here +1

Coming from the 360 I appreciate the PS4 UI as the 360 UI became so cluttered. So far I really like the PS4 and the controller.

its faster from standby mode than the PS3 not sure about from full off. either way its pretty quick, if i hit the PS button to turn it on and then turn on the TV and AVR the PS4 is ready to go before the AVR does all its silly checks and handshakes

hows the fan noise on everyones console? reports and YT vids of it sounding like a hair dryer. mine is pretty damn quiet. id call it silent at idle, played KZ for a good 45 min yesterday and it got louder but even then it was less loud than my 360 or fat PS3

I think it might be a tad louder than my PS3 slim and 360 slim during gameplay. The Blu-Ray is somewhere between the PS3 and 360. It just might be that it's located directly under my TV and it's getting a little warmer than my other consoles. In general, it's not annoyingly loud, but it's louder than I expected.

I'd say mine a little louder than my PS3 Slim. The PS4's is 85MM if I recall, while the PS3 Slim is 95mm. Which will make it a bit louder as it has to spin faster to move the same amount of air. It's not as loud as my PC though with it's grand total of 8 fans keeping it cool. Or more relevant to you folks here, it's definitely a lot quieter than the PS3 Fat and original Xbox 360.

I counted 15-20 seconds or so from power on to resuming a Killzone save. Granted the campaign resumed at a in game cut scene that couldn't be skipped because it was a cover for a load screen :awe:

Going from PS3 to PS4 is like going from HDD to SSD, thing is just lightning quick. I exited Killzone, signed up for PSN+, spent an hour downloading and messing around with the free games. Went back to Killzone after all that and it was back in the game instantly.

PS3 is going to be hard to use...

I plugged my ps3 into hdmi 2 and the noise on ps4 is definately silent compared to the ps3. I can barely hear it. I'm not sure how others are saying it is loud. My slim ps3 sounds like a mini hair drier.

I normally shut it down completely when I'm not using it but I should be more liberal on using standby mode and then have it log me in automatically so it boots faster.

i must be in the minority because i like the UI of the ps4. it's very basic, fast, and organized. but it gets the job done just fine. i just used the amazon video app on ps4 and it looks pretty much identical to the ps3 one and worked great.

Nah, I'm with you. Simple, intuitive, and snappy. I like it quite a bit.

So far it is a lot quieter than my old fat PS3. I did not really hear it at all though since I had the sound up playing games. Maybe when I watch a quiet movie I will notice it more.

Bah, so annoying that I pre-ordered FIFA 14 and now it's out of stock. :( Was supposed to be here yesterday.

I actually have no idea how fast it turns on from standby because they didn't implement HDMI-CEC very well. After hitting the PS button while the PS4 is on standby, it takes around 10 seconds for it to finally alert my TV that it's powering up. Given that my TV has to turn on and then turn my AVR on, it's at least 15-20 seconds before I can actually do anything.

It doesn't seem too noisy, but I can definitely hear it if I'm up near my TV.

Also, for those talking about fan size, keep in mind that the PS4's fan isn't a standard fan. The PS4 uses a radial fan similar to what you see in PC video cards that use blower-style coolers.

My copy of Need for Speed is still in limbo as well. I asked Amazon about it yesterday, and they said it's back-ordered. :( They did bump me up to one-day shipping because of it though!

Yeah weather you are in standby or full power down, once you hit the ps button, it takes s good 10 seconds or so before my tv picks it up. I usually turn on my tv first, switch to hdmi and turn on the ps4. Sometimes I'll turn on the ps4 and turn the tv on second, but it still takes time to tell my tv, that it has booted.

Hopefully they will upgrade the firmware later with some improvements. Didn't they say suspend was not available on launch? Will that be the same as stand by? Can I be in the middle of a cod game and tell it to stand by?

Last night I put it in standby with the disc still inside. When I powered it up again, it took a while for the eject button to recognize i was pressing it to eject the disk. Or maybe I was not pressing the button right, why are they so damn thin ?

i really disslike HDMI-CEC to be honest, it never wants to work right and there are times when i only want to turn 1 thing off and it turns too many things off and well i just dissabled it

Yeah 2k14 looks almost like a real game on TV at a glance. At my buddy's house friday night someone walked into the room and said something to the effect of "I didn't know the game was still on". He thought it was an actual TV broadcast at first but once we pointed out the blue circles around our player he got it. Live on the other hand just looks bad...really bad.

NBA2K14 isn't getting such great reviews either from what I've seen. People are saying it is just a slightly graphics update from NBA2k13 and some of the physics are better, but the dribble controls are wonky and they've removed features (if you are on the line and are taking a shot, no longer will you automatically step back to make it a 2 and the camera options in the replay are less than previous generations).

My big problem is they are nickle and diming you for extra shoes in the game from what I hear. Although, I think this was in previous versions as well.
