edit: someone today returned 3 PS4s to my gamestop because they said "people on ebay were trying to scam me and I wasn't getting $700 a piece for them". Then they sold the three returned consoles in about 20 minutes they told me.

Bahahahah

Think I'll try and get one in March. Should fall right into tax rebate time, and an Infamous bundle sounds perfect for me.

Can PS+ benefits no longer be used on another system?

What do you mean? I had PSN+ on PS3 and can download games to my vita via my PSN account and likewise to my PS4. I have logged into a friend's PS3 and downloaded games I purchased too.

resogun is free with ps+. i dont get this game. just go in circles?

It's simple. Shoot the enemies, grab the green bits that appear, shoot the green + sign to upgrade weapon, shoot the green ships to release human, bring human to transporter beam to get either points, shields, or other enhancements. Shoot the enemies fast to get multiplyer up and after 3 phases you fight a boss.

It's supposed to be reminiscent of the old shooters from the arcade like Galaga and the like except modernized. There is minimal to no story and it's just fast paced action to get high scores.

No issues with the blue light; I mean it's not even facing me, so not sure why I would care. I will say I don't understand why it is there, but whatever.

If I had to guess, it's probably because the camera was originally set to be bundled with the console. To lower the price to help them compete easier against Microsoft, Sony removed the camera to make the $399 price tag not hurt their bottom line too much. So, since the camera was going to be bundled, they probably designed the controllers as more of a move accessory. Although, I still probably would've designed them with the ability to turn the light off regardless. :$

Hmm, yeah, good point. I had not thought of it as an Eye thing. Makes sense.

I honestly would never have given the light a second thought if it had not been brought up here. /shrug

I'm not gonna lie, so far I think the PS4 fucking sucks and I might return it. I like the controller, if anything, a little less than the DS3. I HATE the UI. To switch between accounts (i admit, i dont do this very frequently, but still), you have to completely log out and then back into the other...why would they make this more complicated than the ps3? I've had two downloads become corrupted. DL speeds are no better than PS3 for me. I had warframe hang on the installing application screen, and had to wait through the whole download (i thought i could play it before the entire thing installed or something, otherwise i'd say nothing) to play it. The primary PS4 thing is just a complication imo.

It seems to me like they tried simplifying the menus so everything is cleaner/looks more streamlined, but in doing so made other things a lot more complicated. Why would they flip the menu (stuff that used to be on the left is now on the right)? I wish they'd have kept it the same, it seemed so much more accessible.

I've played warframe, which sucks, and resogun and contrast are not great either. I've not played any "real" games yet, though. I dunno. I'd like to try killzone and knack before i make any decisions, but so far its not as ZOMG as i though it'd be. :/

My experience is the exact opposite of yours so far. The download and install speeds feel about 10x as fast as what I had on the PS3 with the same/similar internet connection. Everything was downloading quickly in the background (I was downloading Resogun and Contrast at the same time and was able to start Resogun almost immediately after I started the download, then it finished both downloads while I was playing).

The menus are very intuitive and fast in my experience. The controller does not really feel much different to me, though it does feel a bit heavier unfortunately.

I've not had to switch accounts, nor will I, so that concern may be valid; I have no idea.

Funny we are having two very different experiences on the same system.

Edit: I should add I have not tried any sort of multiplayer. Not sure how that is working.

I'd definitely give it some time. I haven't had any download or install issues and I love the UI. It is very snappy without any stupid advertisements. DL speeds were great for me, full saturation of my network (I can check through my router) where as the PS3 would usually hang out at about 400-500kbs, the PS4 uses everything it can get a hold of. Installing takes a bit longer than I'd like, but what can you do about a 5400RPM HDD? Not much.

I actually like that the controller is a tad heavier. The PS3 controller always felt like a counterfeit part because it was so flimsy and light.

Also, I didn't know about the voice commands working without the camera. I'm going to have to try that out tonight.

i must be in the minority because i like the UI of the ps4. it's very basic, fast, and organized. but it gets the job done just fine. i just used the amazon video app on ps4 and it looks pretty much identical to the ps3 one and worked great.

ME too that's one of the things I like...simplicity. The PDM is really great to me since it puts the relevant info right there and your last used games and features to the left. Also tried the amazon app and it worked fine and loaded pretty fast compared to what I remember on PS3.

$85 for maybe 30 minutes of effort doesn't seem like a bad ROI.
It is a bad ROI because it's not $85 in 30 minutes, it's $85 minus substantial risk. If you get a DOA unit, then what? What if, with such a pricey item, you get scammed?

I sell things on Ebay for $10-30 all the time, but there's no risk involved. Worst case the buyer tells me it's broken I'll just say whatever here's your money back use the item as target practice. When the item is worth $500 this isn't an option.

But what if the unit isn't faulty? What are the percentage of faulty units, anyway... <1%?

So if you log out of your user you need to log in to psn again by entering username and password ? The only reason I would have another user on there is if I let my brother borrow the system. He has his own psn account. If it was just local, you don't need to do that you just create a local account. My friend was over and that's what we did so we could play split screen.

Downloads for me are slower than ps3. Not sure why, I'm on the same connection. Installs are fine, the only game I could not play because it was installing was bf4. But that was because I wanted multiplayer. This is pretty much the only time you can't play while installing, if you wanted to do a campaign in most games you can go ahead.

My 1TB hard drive arrives tomorrow hopefully. It's a bit quicker than the stock one so maybe that will help with installing games.

I'm not sure why sometimes there are download files for a game and when it's done it says ready to be installed, you can delete that one and the game still normally installs so you can play.

I feel like the ds4 is perfect. It's heavier as it should be because the ds3 felt like one of those chocolate Easter bunnies, the hollow ones. It charges fairly quickly. I put the system in standby and plugged in the controller. It was done in about 20 minutes. I'm not too sure how accurate the charge meter is though.

Overall the UI is snappy and I'm happy for that coming from the ps3. There are a few things that will be patched up in the future I'm sure.

downloads for me are fast, 20GB downloaded in 90 minutes and it let me install it after 5 minutes.

the downloads may be slower because everyone is downloading right now (instead of buying from store), they may hit a surge of bandwidth. regardless, we are living in the future.

I seriously hope Nintendo doesn't die, along with Atari they powered this business and looking back the best gaming memories come from them. XBOX took internet playing to another level and IMO Sony is a little lost playing catchup left and right. Out of the 3 big boys I worry about Nintendo.

Same here. The 360 UI got so overloaded and cumbersome with crap that it just became a chore. I push the PS button on my controller and it's just ON. Like RIGHT NOW. Pretty amazing.

Meanwhile, I keep seeing these videos about how the Xbone can start up in 13 seconds ... from standby mode

Start-up time isn't a big deal really I just think it's funny. I love the PS4's UI. Games start instantly. The system starts instantly. The UI is crisp, simple, elegant, and to the point.

Oh yeah and my downloads have been sick fast too.

I don't like shit running in the background though, I hate how the iphone did/does it, it can slow the device down to a crawl if implemented poorly.

I understand maybe a couple to switch back and forth between.

Sounds promising. Now if only Watch Dogs would come out.

Your iPhone doesn't have 8GB of memory though.

Yeah but do we know how all those suspended or running process in the background are affecting game playing? Just a question. I don't care for suspended processes, I can live with 1 or 2 knowing you might tab out.
