Anyone getting any extended warranties? I typically don't but I just picked up a 3yr Squaretrade warranty for $38ish as a precaution. Probably won't ever use it but it was cheaper than Sony's.

I got one through Gamestop. I just bring my console in and walk out with a new one. No shipping.

I was going to buy Sony's accidental protection but I'm careful enough with my stuff that I wouldn't need that and I also decided that shipping and waiting would annoy me if I was midway through a game.

How much was it? From what I understand, I would have had to purchase the console through Gamestop to get it in the first place.

Yea you have to buy the console from gamestop. Is the difference for square trade the same as Sony? You still ship it. But Sony pays shopping. I don't need accidental coverage. Also Sony's warranty covers you for 36 months from purchase date. I don't think it adds to original 12,months warranty.

The Warranty directly through sony extends your initial 12 month warranty to a further 24 months. So you get the first year free, and additional 2 year is $50.

The warranty I got through gamestop is $40 and covers me for 2 years but it's a walk in exchange but you need to have purchased the console from them. I don't have to wait for shipping and I can go to any gamestop and process the exchange and then I am able to purchase a new warranty for the new console but there are limits on how many exchanges they will do within a timespan or something like that. Sony will continually replace or repair your unit until you don't have a problem. Microsoft too because they replaced my original Xbox 3 times before it worked flawlessly.

Square Trade covers the shipping as well. Covers 3 years from purchase (shipped date for pre-orders) and from what I understand, you're more likely to get a new unit or a check than you are to get a repaired unit from Sony which is why I leaned towards that route. And its a little cheaper with a 30% coupon.. The Gamestop convenience would have been awesome though. Next time I'll have to go with buying locally.

i remember doing this with the ds lite back in the day, it costed me 20 bucks, exchanged the first one for a faulty top screen, second one for dropping it in water, i was going to exchange it a third time but i gave it away, this was over a period of 8 or so months

The coverage through PSN is either $59.99 for 36 month accidental coverage or $49.99 for non-accidental coverage.

I would like a warranty but I swear square trade was only 2 years and uses Sony for its first year?

What is the best option for amazon buyers?

The only 3-year I could find on Amazon was with accidental damage which I didn't need. You can buy directly through Square Trade which is what I did. Did the "Like" on FB, entered e-mail address and got a 30% coupon. Though the Amazon one was like $56 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846 which is about the same as Square Trades with accident protection and the 30% off. The first year is going to be through Sony regardless.

Considering my xbox, ps2 both died early and my 360 even in its pampered life developed a drive problem after four years (and it was a jasper) I am inclined to get a warranty on the ps4.

After 4 years, I'm included to just buy the newer redesigned model myself. I figure if I get 3-4 years worth of entertainment, that is good enough for me. I get less time out of my more expensive graphics cards.

Yeah next paycheck I'm going to get the warranty from Sony through the psn store. I never had issues with my ps3 and I got it a month after it launched then gave it to my brother and bought a slim version. But I don't want to take chances with this one.

Best buy wanted 80+ for two years. Last time I bought warranty through best buy for a camera, they sent the camera in to get repaired. Turns out they could not repair it so they replaced it with an equivalent model. If they send stuff in it's better to just go through Sony or get gamestop warranty if you bought your console there.

I didn't know about gamestop and that their warranty was cheaper. Next time I'll buy the next system there.

To those who do not have room, I would agree. I do...!

Give me a TV with kinect built in so I can wave my arms to change channels and things like that, but for a console I think most gamers in general find it pointless. Just another wire to run. And don't there with the cable box through Xbox thing, just don't go there. I prefer the "keep it simple stupid" when it comes to my entertainment center.

I didn't know about gamestop and that their warranty was cheaper. Next time I'll buy the next system there.

I wouldn't trust Gamestop's warranty, Last year I watch this guy go completely apeshit in the store because he paid for a warranty on his PS3 and they would not honor it for his broken controller, apparently it's a very limited warranty

I made a KILLING on a TV with bestbuy. I bought a low-end brand, but they price warranties based on price, with no inclination to brand, so I think it is favorable for those who buy bad brands. Anyway, 4 year warranty and just before four years was up I had some weird vertical lines. Really not a huge problem to be honest, but they took the TV in, gave me credit for a similar TV. I got that similar TV, and got another 4 year warranty. I ended up going from a 42" to a 46" with another four years for like $80 I think.

BTW I didn't realize the PS4 would allow voice commands in games minus the camera/kinect of the xbox. That is good. I never tried it on the 360 but I had the impression that in some games it could be quite powerful if done properly. Imagine a real time strategy game that relies heavily on voice prompts, it would really open up the console, finally (without sucking), to that genre of game.

I'd go through sony if I bought online myself. That's just me.

Well it covers the system. Not the accessories you can buy separately. If my controller breaks there is nothing tying that particular controller to the system. How do they know it isn't one I bought separately? Anyway if the system fails I will pull out my HDD, put the stock HDD back in and get a replacement. If my HDD fails that's on me, if the BDRom drive fails or the PSU goes out then I get a new one.

Don't have a racing game to try it on yet. I'd have to grab my G27 out of storage though. All I currently have is my Fanatec CSR due to apartment space. I guess I could try it tho. From what I understand it emulates the G25 for the PS3.

I bought the one from Best Buy when I got my console. It cost $89 for two years including accidental damage. I had issues with some things in the past and Best Buy had great and fast service with it all.

I think the guy's complaint was that the employee who sold him on the warranty explicitly told him it covers anything. In fact he pointed him out in the store who was standing behind the manager and I just remember the manager saying "he should not have told you that". So I think that is why he was raging so loudly, I thought they were going to call the cops but the manager worked something out with him which calmed him down.
But whatever, I don't usually buy warranties.

Finally got mine. Working perfectly and I played a bit of Resogun, which I liked. I played about half of Contrast which I absolutely love; I know it's pretty simplistic, but I love the environments and the story. Then I played the intro for Knack which I also really liked. I would still be playing Contrast or Knack right now if Monday Night Football was not about to start.

No issues with the blue light; I mean it's not even facing me, so not sure why I would care. I will say I don't understand why it is there, but whatever.

I think that's it. Very happy so far. Now just waiting for my FIFA 14 to ship! :)

Yeah a lot of people don't. With consoles, knowing the history of returns I do now. I remember replacing a PS2 twice and an original xbox 3 times. My 360 broke once but not RROD, just some AV out issues and I had no warranty so I was out the $300 or whatever it was at the time.
