While it may be nice to have those tv features I have three other ways to watch or stream Netflix or other movie/video related entertainment sources. This wasn't a selling point for me when choosing which console I'm getting.

Not really for me either, but if Comcast gets the ability for the Xbox One to fully function a as a cable box, I'd be okay with that.

Yeah that would be cool to have. But then wait you would not have to pay a box rental fee for an hd box if they enabled hd cable box like abilities through the Xbox. In my area Comcast is the majority cable provider and even though I don't use their hd box or extra cable packages, they would have to find a way to charge you for something.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but Sony has apparently scored an exclusive streaming deal for Viacom's content. Which explains why it disappeared from Netflix. Of course I'm sure this will be US only, as always. We never get any streaming love here in sunny Canada.

Sony is in talks with Disney and Viacom in what looks like them trying to start up a competing cable subscriber type service. That would likely make it to the PS4 if it goes through.

I wonder if that will be a PS+ bonus? Sony does have their separate music service, so it wouldn't be unheard of that they'll create a separate video streaming service or combine it with that music streaming service.

I just don't see it working out in Sony's favor for some reason. They are paying Viacom a good bit of money to stream some channels (Viacom's television networks are not exactly the best), I see cable companies fighting this. Or trying to leverage Viacom in some way. (stop allowing streaming with a subscription to a TV service, or we're dropping you / demanding more money to be on our plan).

But, maybe not. Would be great for people that like the stuff on their networks.

I wouldn't be surprised in cable companies are paying viacom for the programming to begin with.

List of Viacom channels

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_assets_owned_by_Viacom#Television_networks

The only channels there that I like are Spike for car/truck how to shows and maybe Comedy Central, but I can see how a lot of their line up would appeal to others. No details so it remains to be seen if PS4 gets all their channels. I sure hope this works out. I wouldn't mind getting tv this way as long as they don't get stupid like cable Co's and try to screw everyone.

Sadly, Spike has lost the UFC contract and MS already has that. Plus, no sports networks is a big thing in the US (and if they could get FIFA or a club league contract, in Europe as well).

Is there really a lot of people that watch MTV? Sure, kids might watch Nickelodeon, but stream it? These aren't really premium channels.

I do. I love MTV so if they did get this I would be so happy.

Wow. Very interested to see what becomes of this...

Would definitely give PSN Online a +1 if it is true. Doesn't seem certain based on the article, but one can hope.

That earlier post mentioned stock inventory of Oct 21 of some sony product. If true, it's likely early November. But they could easily say something else Tuesday.

I honestly don't see them dropping out of October for a launch date. I'm sure they want to beat Microsoft to market and should easily be able to do so, since Microsoft seems cemented in the November month. Regardless, we'll see the PS4 in right about 2 months time.

Releasing in October would not give the best results. We don't even know if a good selection of games for the ps4 will be available that early. Most of the games we are interested in are coming out late November. Bf4, cod, watchdogs, knack, a few others. No point letting users buy a console a month before any decent games come out. What will we do just turn on the console and mess around the UI?

I wouldn't mind as that's not to long and we most likely will have Drive Club to hold us over. 😀

Drive club looks neat I like that you can try out the game through psn and keep it by purchasing the full version. At least that's one game to have right away. I'm sure the Indy games will be available. Octodad looked hilarious.

I would not mind getting it in October. I would pay it off way before Xmas that way I don't have to spend a ton of money all at once on presents for my siblings say if the console came out the end of November.

The PSN version of Drive Club is the full version just missing a few tracks & cars. So I will not be buying it lol
