Agreed. But spouting off inaccuracies anywhere doesn't help.

I wasn't planning on getting a PS4 but after I watched the announcement I'm tempted. Has to be at least one game that gets me to bite though.

It didn't even take 2 years. Are you just blabbing to blab? There was ~8mo period at most (if you had launch day consoles) where you could have been outside of your 1 year warranty, and that's if you had an issue.

So someone who's system broke in 2006 (it came out in November 2005) and subsequently replaced and trashed the old one gets nothing. That's precisely what I am talking about.

And you can stop responding if it gets your panties in a twist.

well it is a tad annoying when i see a new response has been made in this thread and i come to check what the new ps4 talk is about, yet for the past 3 days it's turned into a fanboy war about the xbox360 and ps3.

I am so glad that I can enjoy both systems. They are both awesome systems.

same. had a blast with tomb raider last week on 360, and loving god of war this week on ps3.

makes me excited for how awesome the next god of war is going to be when it hits ps4. i'll probably redbox that one too though cause i'm sure it will be like 10 hours long lol.

I'm loving god of war. Between that and The Show, I'm having a hard time getting on my Xbox to finish Tomb Raider.

I'll third that motion.

As someone who is against console gaming in general I'm very intrigued by the PS4. Watch Dogs is pretty mind blowing IMO. Any word on release? I suppose like anything else it will be october/november time frame for holiday sales.

I remember when the xbox360 came out I was in a walmart wanting to buy one for resale and they had already given out all the tickets. One guy wanted to sell me his voucher for $50. I scoffed at his offer. Knowing now what they went for during Christmas of that year it would have been a good investment. Same will hold true for PS3 this year although I don't think I'll sell.

The sheer amount of indie games for PS4 (and the streamlining of the process) makes me wonder, what does this mean for Steambox?

I think steam box will just fail because they don't have the pull for grabbing exclusives from consoles and it will probably run off of Linux which means no directx and that's like 99% of the games released on PC today. I just don't see it working outside of windows and trying to compete with Sony for third party support is going to be nearly impossible for them.

i am no fanboi, i see a lot of you here are, i own both systems, like both systems, but seem to play the 360 more because of the online service, its no doubt much better

as for the ps4, i am on board, i like the exclusive games much better for playstation and everything that has been anounced so far looks great

as for the new xbox, IF rumors are true i will pass on this system, i am not going to support a system that will restrict the use of used games or a system that needs a constant internet conection, it dissapoints me that microsoft would think that we gamers would actually be ok with them nickel and diiming us to death, why take away used games? because their profit margin isnt as great as it could be and their ceo needs to buy an island

It makes it considerably less interesting. Last few years steam got you PC performance and hardware/software extensibility, forward/backwards compatibility, big sales and a lot of interesting exclusive indie games. This eats away at a lot of that exclusivity, and Sony is getting there in terms of sales/pricing. The extensibility and compatibility is still a huge selling point, as long as they keep pushing the big picture and controller support. Cross buy and remote play support for Vita is something steam won't be able to match though.

It won't make the steam box irrelevant, but it does chip away quite a bit at their market.

Can somebody here convince as to why I would want a ps4 when it comes out?

In my mind, I already have a decent gaming PC set up. All I need to keep doing is upping my GPU/CPU (mobo when needed) and hook it up to my large TV, and play PC games using a console controller.

I only play FPS using the PC, so my ps3 now is only used to go on netflix, and play campaigns like Bioshock, GOW, etc etc.

Ease of use and consistency. 100% of PS4 games will support controllers, run well, and look great. No need to deal with windows updates or virus. No strange configuration bugs. No cheating, and an even playing field for MP - everyone has a controller and the same frame rate/quality. No need to optimize your set up for a game (I think I've spent more time tweaking bioshock infinite performance than actually playing it). No need to keep chasing an ever increasing performance bar. The console hardware is definitely
cheaper up front for what you get (the software cost is arguable either way).

Buy it once, you're good for 5ish years of couch gaming without the hassle. PC couch gaming has got a hell of a lot better the past two years or so, but it still can't match the ease of a console.

There is almost no real reason to get a console at launch...although I do it anyway. You may as well just wait until there are a good 3-4 games that interest you.

I have a gaming PC hooked up to my TV as well, but I do have a fat stack of either PS3-exclusive or console-exclusive-yet-mutliplatform games for the PS3 (Uncharted series, God of War, Demons Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, Nier, Ico/SotC, inFamous, MGS: Rising, MGS4, and a lot more I can't remember). As someone who likes games to much, the PS3 had too many great exclusives for me to resist. I expect PS4 to be the same way.

Thats the only reason that makes sense to me.

Besides Linux, Mac, IOS, Android, Playstation, and Nintendo games don't use DirectX. Not having DirectX is meaningless.

I think what he means is that of the thousands of games on Steam, I believe than less than 100 of them actually run on Linux natively (i.e. are in the Steam Linux store). If they're going to launch a Steam Box, it probably won't come pre-installed with Windows given what Gabe has said about Windows 8, which leaves Linux as the likely OS, meaning it won't really have that many games on it.

The same reason why people have gotten a console over a gaming PC since forever. This has been answered thousands of times.
