For DVDs it still appears to be X though, which is the really weird thing. I watched a DVD yesterday and I paused using X, but a Blu-ray a couple of weeks back I had to use O. 😵

Ignore this, it is actually completely random. It changes from disc to disc; watched three Blu-rays yesterday and 2 used the X button while 1 used the O button.

Maybe that depends on the region of the movie? I remember reading that in japan O was the default accept button while in the US X is default

Hopefully if it sucks in Japan at least the people over there are in close proximity to Sony and can march on its headquarters to demand they fix this really ridiculous-to-still-exist problem.

Any word on a damn firmware upgrade for this thing? MP4s anyone? Play all blu-rays properly? It's been two months since the last update.

EDIT: This says Feb 22 http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/...e-headset-compatibility-to-arrive-february-22

Just confirmed going live in North America today actually. Sony isn't saying much about update 1.6 other than it enables support for the PULSE headset.

The ps4 isn't region free as far as I know.

Hmm, I actually think it might be region free. I know Sony said it was. In the past, they did bake region locking code into the PS3 and PSP if developers wanted to use it, but I think only one or two games ended up doing so. They still had a region code on the box though, where as PS4 and Vita games don't. Nintendo is the only company IIRC that still actively region locks all their games, because Nintendo still thinks its 1994.

The O X thing being different in Japan is just the way they do things over there, just like it is different for us, when it first started being done as accept/back for whatever reason they changed it between Japan and the rest of the world long long time ago.

The PS4 is region free actually.

I have a wired surround headset, I've been waiting until this update to pick up the Elite headset so I may buy one now. I hate having a wired headset.

Why is this even news? Almost all optical media devices have region locking built into them! The point is that Sony does not force developers to region lock games. That was the same policy with the PS3, and if I remember correctly, there was only one region-locked game. Most Blu-Ray movies have region locking built into them, and the PS4 won't treat them any differently than the PS3 or any other Blu-Ray player.

It's rather confusing to try and state that the PS4 has region locking when the point of that statement is meant to be about the games. Nintendo is the only company that currently forces region locking on their games.

Yeah but we were talking about pausing movies, that's why it was brought up. We were not talking about pausing games. I do have a region free player, but I only use it sparingly. For the most part I just use my PS4.

They were talking about a movie pausing with O vs X and how it may be tied to the region. It isn't possible this is the case when it isn't a region free blu-ray player.

FW 1.6 is out. Doesn't add anything exciting though.

-Picture quality during DVD playback has been improved.
-Wireless stereo headsets (CECHYA-0080/CECHYA-0083/CECHYA-0086) are now supported.
-You can now mute the microphone for the PlayStation Camera.

Yes nothing I care about lol or use. I can't rememember the last time I watched a DVD.

Can't wait for inFamous to come out, loved the first two and this one looks great too but that's not until the end of March. Thief looks cool but I'll wait for reviews for that one.

I wish 1.60 included support for fighting sticks. I haven't really touched Injustice because I want to play it with my fighting stick... dammit.

well I'm putting my stupid ps4 up on craigslist... nba2k14 2 controllers... gonna try to get what I bought it for... sorry just saw it go for less than that..
