I don't think people ever said people wouldn't pay to play online, it was obvious people would with Live Gold. What people have complained about is how it is shitty to pay for online play though and that is still a valid complaint. PS+ was popular before the PS4 and needing it for online play and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people signed up for it simply for the games they get, I have a few friends that outside of FF14 don't play multiplayer games but bought PS+ for their PS4's simply because they looked at the value it gave. The bulk of the new subs though are undoubtedly from people wanting to play online though.
you must not visit many console forums heh. tons and tons of the sony camp said they would never pay to play online. saw it plenty on this forum too and this is a more tame forum compared to others since it's mostly adults here.
the value of PS+ hasn't changed from ps3 to ps4, unless you count paying to play games online an additional value. and if you count that, then you'd have to count paying to use netflix and amazon prime on xbl an additional value too.
Except the competition doesn't force you to pay extra to use those streaming services.
I've had PS Plus on PS3 because of the awesome amount of games they give you, of course no one likes to pay for online but I will say that online on PS4 is a hundred times better than it was on PS3. So I'll gladly pay for online since we are getting a much better product.
He's saying you don't have to pay for psn plus if you just want to stream Netflix or amazon. But you still have to pay Netflix. Whereas I think for Xbox live you need it if you want to stream Netflix from the console.
I am guessing that within the next couple years, this whole stupid debate about value in live and psn will die out. The fact of the matter is, you need to pay for the service to get the most out of either console. And since it seems like several Xbox guys switched over to ps4 this generation, those people obviously don't have any problem with paying to play online.
Yeah, I've been through console wars enough to know you're probably right. I guess what I should have said is only morons will hold on to these arguments in the future.dude ... you must be new to the internet if you think console wars are going to die anytime soon lol. it's been going on since nes and sega master system (as far back as i can remember).

SNES vs Genesis was a 'war' as much as USA vs Guam would be a 'war' 😉
Pshh just because you loved SNES. I really loved both though and Phantasy Star IV is still one of my favorite RPG's along with Lunar and Chrono Trigger.
All this talk about Nintendo kind of matches up with the talk I just had with a friend from this board at work. We talked about old school Nintendo stuff and now I am feeling all nostalgic. I had planned on grabbing a ps4, but now I am seriously thinking about getting a Wii U to complement my Xbox One and catch up on all the exclusives I have missed over the Wii/Wii U generations.
PS4' sales are murderous. XB1 hasn't been out as long, but isn't quite there with sales on a weekly basis. Its start is still very strong, though. This gen is setting up to be massive. The games coming down the pike over the next five years will be superb.
Here are some interesting numbers and charts from IGN to put it all in perspective. http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/01/07/what-sonys-42-million-ps4s-sold-figure-actually-means
Nintendo has taken a massive beat down and it needs to really step its s*** up soon.
PS4 is selling for a whopping $100 cheaper. IMHO that is really the main reason why it's selling so strongly in comparison. Lest we forget, when the XBOX360 was cheaper than the PS3 it outsold it as well initially.
The key is what happens 1-2 years down the road as the platforms mature and better games come out. My gut tells me that Microsoft has way more in store for their console than Sony does. The PS4 probably won't see anywhere near as much development over time as the X1 will.
What you posted makes no rational sense. Most western 3rd parties will develop for both systems... but the PS4 holds advantages with online oriented developers (think free to play, and MMOs), Japanese developers (Xbox is unlikely to get a good install base in Japan, leading to developers not porting to the system), and indie developers. Sony also has more 1st party development studios than Microsoft.
ummm... what?
The PS4 holds the advantage in online oriented games, like MMOs and Free 2 Play games. Not that they won't exist on the Xbox One, but the PS4 holds the advantage there, mostly due to Sony policies being more flexible than Microsoft policies...
Currently the PS4 has a few F2P games, like Warframe, and Blacklight Retribution, in addition to several SOE games (like DC Universe Online, and pretty soon Planetside 2), but others are going Sony exclusive, such as Square Enix, with Final Fantasy ARR. So basically the list is growing...
And for stuff in the future, that's going to continue being a thing. Star Citizen's developer recently made a comment that the game is more likely to get a PS4 port than an Xbox One port due to Sony having more flexibility with their online policies....
So, it's actually a thing. The PS4 is stronger in MMOs and F2P games.
i fail to see how they have any kind of advantage. ps4 you have to pay to play games online just like you do xbox1. however i do believe they had said that you don't have to pay for ps+ for MMO's if they require a monthly fee (i could be wrong about that though).
on ps3 you didn't have to pay to play anything online except maybe an MMO, and you had to pay to play any xbox360 game online because of live, and xbox360 had much better online gaming experiences with higher numbers of players online.
i just fail to see how you are coming to this conclusion.
