XBO could be supply issues, since they all sold out AFAIK. Wii U, it's a demand issue. The console just can't compete this generation; it's going to get left in the dust and be nothing more than a Nintendo game machine. Just as some of us said a year back when it came out.

I used to not care, but after playing SM3DW I really want to pick one up. Worried it may go the way of the Dreamcast though at this rate...

It does seem dire for them. The hottest third party games won't be coming to the wiiu or will be severely neutered. They dont have an online infrastructure set up so all the features like streaming and such won't be available. They also rely too much on old names which has done them well before, but both sony and microsoft have new exclusives coming that might be more interesting to some than playing Mario kart again.

The second screen and remote play benefits are largely negated with companion apps for your tablet or smartphone, smartglass, and the vita.

I would totally play a new Mario Kart

I'm really enjoying it. I'm only half way through the game going by the sequences, but I've collected an ungodly amount of stuff so far (all places I visit I collect everything before leaving), have my ship nearly fully upgraded, fleet max'd out, and hideout max'd out as well.

I like the rate the memories thing. I read something from one of the devs that said they put that in so they can see what missions people enjoyed and didn't and can improve for future games. I think it is a great way to get feedback from gamers and it really benefits us (gamers) to do it as it will (hopefully) improve future games.

I liked the pirate stuff just not the modern day stuff. The sage element was weird. Have you tried the companion app with your smartphone or tablet? You can bring up the map on the second screen instead of pausing the game if you want. I kind of thought it was cool.

Looks like we won't be getting Gaikai streaming until next summer.

They keep mentioning a US rollout, not a North American one though. Which would be unfortunate. Europe is not supposed to get it until 2015.

The article also says that Sony is planing to launch it for Vita and mobile devices in the future to remove "the need to purchase expensive hardware to play high-end games". Or rather, stand alone hardware. Interesting.

The modern day stuff was ok. I liked the info you got on various stuff with hacking. How they keep referencing back to Desmond and such. I haven't played an AC game since 2 but at least know about the other somewhat so I liked it. Gameplay wise the modern day was bleh (so far at least). I'm just over half way done with the game so haven't dealt that much with the sage yet, tracking him down again iirc right now.

I haven't tried the companion app yet. I tried too thinking I could use the PS companion app and do the second screen through there, but it didn't work 🙁 which is silly imo.

Pretty close to the time I was expecting, mid time next year for Gaikai.

I found the sage idea to be a little out of place. How come in other titles it was not mentioned and you never meet up with him? It doesn't feel congruent to me. It is as if it is a tacked on idea.

I never am a fan of the sci fi present day flashback things in the AC. I feel as if they are just fluffing the story.

Yeah but at least with the other games it made sense for the main character. This new one doesn't have the same feel at all during the present day stuff. Your character isn't personable and nobody is very memorable at all in the grand scheme.

I would imagine that the biggest hurdle is setting up the infrastructure. For example, NVIDIA just released GRID Streaming to the NVIDIA Shield as a beta last night. Right now, their only data center is based in California, and they recommend to not try it unless you live close by. Well, that didn't stop me from giving it a shot! The software on the Shield told me that my ping was less than optimal at 100ms, but still within tolerances (< 50 is ideal, < 150 is required). I tried out a game of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, and while I'm no fighting game expert, it was actually fairly playable. I could feel a bit of lag every now and again, but I still sucked just like I was playing locally!

Anyway, the point of that is that I assume Sony wants to put the hardware in place to avoid people having to connect cross-country just to play. While they could probably roll things out quicker, I think they want to be smart and cost-conscious about how they do it.

I bet gaikai streaming will suck complete ass. I just dont see how theyre gonna have millions of people streaming and have it be as playable as just owning the game when PSN isn't even 100% at all times (neither is xbox live, but i dont think theyre doing streaming so its beside the point). Most people in america have shitty connections anyway.

Just like Netflix streaming, have it change the quality based on your connection or just flat out say your connection is too slow.

I think it will be pretty decent. Remote Play uses the same infrastructure and it works.

Remote play works over wifi well. I think gaikai will have tons of caveats for a lot of people. High compression and/or unacceptable latency. Personally I don't want to play an action game if controller lag is noticeable and it will be. I can see it in the future perhaps but I am not looking that forward to it.

I have a Vita, I think the stats on thing are very limited ownership. Nintendo has no worries, their handheld owns everybody.

I saw a video where a guy did it over LTE and it played fine.

It's a little different than Netflix since most of the grunt work is being done at the server end. Which means a lot more server capacity than what's needed for simply transferring raw data already stored on hard drives. Given Sony's history with PSN, I'm a bit skeptical as to whether they'll be able to have enough capacity for everyone who wants to use the service.
