I wasnt having this problem that often before but it is happening regularly now. My proximity sensor does not worth half the time. I keep ending calls and turning on the speaker phone with my face. Getting rather annoying.
 
Finally got my iPhone 4 yesterday. I'm left handed and find it completely unnatural to hold the phone anywhere even close to the "death grip" so I have zero problems so far with the antenna issue.
 
GOD DAMN-IT!

They've delayed the white iPhone 4! I've been basically just waiting for the white version this whole time! Jerks! :'(
 
There is an issue with the painting of some sort from what I read with the white iPhone.

Why am I not buying this explanation? How is it that Apple can make such "magical" devices yet can't get paint right? Have they not shown a white iPhone to anyone? Well, yes in fact they have and they are seen on youtube. Maybe I'm reaching here but I think there is more to the delay than just "paint thickness and opacity". Shrug

Granted that looks like what I'm saying. But I really was trying to convey how they are such technological giants yet can't find someone with the correct paint? Doesn't seem to fall in line logically, at least to me. Like I say though, I'm probably reaching for something that isn't there.

It's not the paint. They are tweaking the antenna. Just watch.

I'm not sure why they would do that? What's the benefit of holding the white phone back while they redesign the antenna if they're still selling the black phones with the antenna issue?

They can do it with the white one because they have an excuse (thanks to previously delaying it) that people like you will believe.

While I do agree that it would be a perfect opportunity for Apple to re-do the antennas, I can't really see the sense in it either. If they were to redo the antennas for the white version, they are essentially admitting the black phones are faulty. We all know that Apple has tried their hardest to keep this under wraps.

Personally, I have a 32 GB black iPhone 4 and haven't had a problem with the reception at all. I guess that means I don't care either way. Again, now would be the time to reconfigure them all the while not having to pay for a case for every white phone buyer... Either way, I'm pretty content to just wait and see.
 
If they redo the antennas on the white, they're not admitting to anything. Have they actually come out and said that the black models are defective?

No, technically they haven't. And at the rate they are adding Android phones to their 'death grip' page, I'd be inclined to believe them. However, this story is EVERYWHERE, to the point where my less-than-tech-savvy-friends even ask me about it. It's not unreasonable to think the average person could put 2 and 2 together if Apple released a 'different' white iPhone.

Explain how Apple benefits from delaying the white phone to fix the antenna rather than releasing the white phone when they had planned to release it and fixing the antenna on both phones whenever it's fixed?

It's not that their excuse is believable, I just have no reason not to believe it because I don't see the benefit to lying in this case.

Delaying the white phone to fix the antenna doesn't make much sense when they're still selling the black phone with the antenna issue.
 
So is this still sold out everywhere? I was thinking of ordering some sort of case that I can pick up when I go back home in a couple weeks, but there's no point if I couldn't get the phone to go with it 😛

Yes.

What I've seen is at least 10 days backorder or more. Be prepared to wait 2 weeks.
 
So, I got the iphone 4 case app... and surprise, surprise. The case I bought for $27 off ebay is on the short list of free cases from apple.

Apparently I can't get refunded if I didn't buy it @ the apple store or at&t store.
 
Not sure if this has been posted yet, but the proximity sensor issue is not fixed as of the 4.1 beta.

To me this is a much more troublesome problem than the antenna which hasn't seemed to affect me at all. I did however face-dial my cousin by accident the other night while talking to my wife.
