The Official iPhone 4 Thread

Since I haven't seen one yet and this is all things apple, I decided to make one.

Reservations started a while ago, finally managed to get one. What a clusterfuck! Glad to be gauranteed one though. I chose store pickup since I need to have them switch an upgrade and the store is like 10 minutes away from me.

So if you want one B&M on launch day, is the best way to pre-order online at store.apple.com and then choose local pickup? I've got a friend who's upgrading.

Yea, but the Apple store is slammed right now and has been going down/coming back up for the last few hours.

Either someone in Apple's server/networking dept has really dropped the ball or the pre-order demand for the iPhone 4 far outstrips anything they have ever released by a wide margin.

I'd say so. It can be done either through apple or AT&T (and a couple third party retailers but better to stay away from them), but apple is the more reliable and has the larger inventory.

You can also have it shipped, but apparently the option was either unavailable or buggy when people were preordering earlier (although the various issues due to so many people trying to get on at once may have been resolved).

I'd prefer to go to the store since I have a few things relating to our account that I'd rather them resolve (although I technically can myself). Also it's really close and I'm hoping to find some cases (and for some weird reason I kinda just wanna go 😀).

Hopefully they're still taking preorders.

Heh, yeah, it was so ridiculous earlier. I think part of the issue was that you have to connect to AT&T for account information...that's where a lot of the hang ups were (although apple had a ton of page expiration errors too).

Yea it is still having those issues.

I think this guy on Macrumors says it best:
I think the guy who lost the prototype got moved down to the server room, and now he has lost the servers too.

hehe

I think I'll just try my luck by going into my local at&t store on launch night after work, or that following weekend. I just don't trust Apple and at&t to have my account and contract handled automatically online, I'd rather have somebody I can look at handling it for me.

Yea, I actually had really good luck with that on launch with the 3GS. Went in at 2:30 pm, no line and got a 32GB model. So I think the launch of the 4 will probably be the same.

Weird, I did the same thing. I went in the day after launch and picked one up. Figured I'd play it safe(r) this time. Seems like they're making a bigger deal about preorders this time (but last time I bought it on a semi-whim so I guess I wouldn't really know).

How much would a new phone and subscription cost for someone without a contract? Is there a discount for new subscribers?

Did you get the 3GS? If so, that was mostly a minor upgrade from the 3G, so there wasn't as big of a demand for it. The new one has a new design, iPad CPU, HD video, and FaceTime video chat - lots of big new features. Plus it got "leaked" a couple months ago so people are already anticipating it.

My buddy was finally able to get his reservation in - it took about 4 hours of waiting on the website. I hope he doesn't have to wait in line at the store...I'm sure the ones not on pre-order will sell out pretty quick, so hopefully he won't have to wait too long.

Starts at $599 off contract, or $199 with a new 2-year contract. $100 more on either if you want the 32GB model.

I need all of you guys to stop hitting Apple's site so I can order my damn phone

I've just been going to the ATT and Apple web sites in 2 different tabs and hitting Reload All Tabs as many times as I can.

Not to actually get it today, but to contribute to the chaos. ()🙂

If the amount of pre-orders is any indication I would not hold my breath and count on casually strolling in on launch day and purchasing one. I believe this launch will eclipse the last big one, which was 3G. If you can, get your preorder in ASAP.

installed the new app store app on my iPhone, did a reservation through that, took about 1 minute. who knows if its any good though. The app gave me pricing of $199 for 16gb, and im not eligible for that pricing yet.

No confirmation email or anything yet. But its the best shot I've got.

edit: just got a confirmation email, says my phone will be at the apple store on June 24th at 7am. and it says the price is $599.00, it should be $399.00. reservation is apparently good until the close of business on the 24th.

got up at 4:40 AM EST and it took me about an hour and a half to get through

would not let me ship to my house (would get store error) for some reason so I tried instore pickup and that worked

Screw this. I spent two hours last night (early morning) and two hours this morning trying to get through. Closest I got was putting in shipping addy then it crashed again. I'll wait.

Still having issues here as well. I tried at 1am and I kept getting hangups when trying to access my ATT info. Now I am still encountering the same problems. Either I will just get a hangup at the ATT access page or it will crash and say that my session expired.

After trying on my computer for most of the day, including early morning before I went to bed, I successfully reserved it through the Apple Store app on my original iPhone. I didn't think it went through but then I got a confirmation email. Funny how the slowest way to do it was also the most successful way.

Good luck to everyone else! 🙂
