I want...nay, I NEED a new TV. I cannot afford one. But yea, I DESIRE one....so I started this thread to make myself feel better. By the time you all are done commisserating w/me, I'll feel much better.

My 32" Sony Trinitron works great. Looks great. But it could look even better. It doesn't have component inputs, which we all know, are the Holy Grail of Input Connections. But we know there is another level...a Godlike level...the Progressive Scan Capable Component Inputs!!! :Q *ominous music plays*

I just bought a progressive scan DVD player (my old DVD crapped-out on me) and now I really have the itch to see movies as they were meant to be viewed....expensively.

I will not be unrealistic and post a pic/specs of the 40-inch XBR...only professional athletes can afford such things....I will post my dream TV...my every desire come true.

I present to you, the Sony 36XBR800.

Back panel connections...oh BABY!!! <--actually another WEGA, but rear panel is the same.

I'd actually be happy with the 36HS500 for $300 less.

*sigh* How to come up with $3K? (need the TV+stand+AV cabinet) Can I sell my s0ul?

*edited to include stand and AV cabinet*

I'm currently in the market for a nice new 36 incher for my new apartment.

I'd *LOVE* progressive scan inputs, but you literally go up to like 2K easily to get that.

I was looking more around 1K

I like the Wega's...just wish i could afford an XBR

Anyone got any other 36 inch recommendations? Perhaps Philips or Panasonic-wise? (aka possibly less expensive than 1-1.2K?)

Wega's are defintely overpriced. I have owned many Sony TV's and monitors, they arent worth the price difference.

Oh, to dream.

I am still using the same 27" Trinitron I bought seven years ago when I got out of college. My wife wanted an entertainment center so we bought this wooden entertainment center that cost more than the currently housed tv. There is room for a 36" TV in there so I have a lot of empty space around my tv. Shame my wife isn't like the one in the Circuit City commercial.

Become an experimental drug tester. Sure you'll probably lose your hair, your back will become a brillo pad and you'll wake up one day with 3 breasts but hey, you got a kickass TV...

They certainly were not meant to be played on a 4:3 television.

I'm right there dreaming with you, bud. This is really depressing, b/c not only do I need a new TV, I'd need a new entertainment center as well. My current EC, while attractive, barely houses the 32" that's in there now. Those WEGAs really need to be on there own custom stand, which of course ups the price by another $300. But then you need a separate cabinet for your receiver/CD changer/software.

So, we have:

TV: $2300
Stand: $300
AV cabinet $300

Three Thousand Freakin' Dollars...plus tax. Can I sell my soul twice?

Correct. They were meant to be viewed on a 16.9 TV, which absolutely sucks ass for regular broadcast television which is still 90% of the broadcast material out there. I have read many horror stories about 16.9 TVs getting "burn in" from having the 4.3 image in the center of the screen. That "stretch mod thing" that the 16.9s do to fit 4.3 full screen looks doofy.

I would say it is 99+% of broadcast material.

I live in CT and want to get rid of my 32" XBR. PM me if you or anyone is interested. It's about 1.5 years old. Has one wiered quirck. The remote doesn't always turn the TV on??? Turns it off, but the TV acts like it goes to sleep and the infered sensor turns off after being off for 5 minutes? Minor issue. not the reason i want to sell it either.

Me looking at Mitsubishi 65" widescreen projections, daddy is looking at Pioneer and Fujitsu 50" plasmas. Don't know which one we'll end up getting.

forget about a 36" tube. too expensive, too small, especially with DVDs and video games.

Look at the 46-51 inch mitsubishi and hitachi 16x9 sets. If the stretch modes bother you then get a 4x3 set. I have a 36" xbr HDTV as well as a mits 65" HDTV.

I hardly EVER watch the sony. A waste of 2 grand if you ask me.

I know I wouldn't buy a 4:3 TV anymore.

I currently have a 46" RPTV that is 16:9. It does stretch the picture out for regular broadcast TV, but after a day or two you get used to it. It really isn't that big of a deal.

Oh, and HDTV is sweet. :)

Wow. Where to start? Here goes:

Tempting offer and thank you, but I would never make such a large purchase sight unseen (no offense to you my friend :))

Me looking at Mitsubishi 65" widescreen projections, daddy is looking at Pioneer and Fujitsu 50" plasmas. Don't know which one we'll end up getting.

The thought of a rear projection has crossed my mind. But, by the time I can afford a house w/a room big enough to house one, we'll all be watching 3D Holographic Scratch and Sniff TV beamed from a pencil size camera. :(

Have you sold your bike yet?

Nope and it hasn't been running in four months. I haven't had the time to pull the carb bank and clean them out...the battery's dead too. That's next on my to do list though...

I've been looking at other brands too. The Panasonic Tau series is very nice....but the WEGA just sticks w/me for some reason. My current Sony runs as well as the day I got it...just no component inputs...I watch a lot of DVDs...
