I will recommend www.gmailswap.com, seeing as that is where I received my invite. When you consider there are less than 20 people here inviting, and on that site I have seen over 100, I think it is a safe bet to say that posting a plea on that site is a safe bet. I received my invite after an hour.

As to the invites, I think they are totally random. My friend has had an account for over a week and still has yet to receive a link to invite anyone

While I don't post very much, I read quite a bit on these forums. I would appreciate an invite if anyone has some extras.

Although recently, (ie. past 2 days) I have tripled my post count (from 2 to 6). So maybe I'm becoming more active.

These things are all over the map on Ebay. They were averaging about $2.50 last night, now they seem to be going for around $5 today. Gmailswap is getting tighter. Friends I know got a few from gmailswap earlier this week but they are tighter today. I know of 4 or 5 attempts that have all failed, even after promises of invites.

Theres a random number generator thingy giving away some 222 invites on www.thebroken.org/gmail but your odds aint great.

I don't get this.. What makes Gmail (Google Email) so hot?

What's so good about it? How is it different from Hotmail or Yahoo email or bla bla bla?

And why you need to be invited? What they trying to do?

ALSO if you can get in NOW, you might get the name you WANT, instead of joeblow1234567890

You get a gig of storage and it is much faster than yahoo for me at least.

Might be because so few can use it right now

I'd chalk it up to barebones graphics and a complete lack of annoying flash & audio ads.

I'm lead to believe that either they have stopped giving invites or they only give them out randomly.

I know a guy who has had the account for several days now and has yet to receive even 1 invite.

Well, in this sea of requests for invites I throw my request out there as well.

Please would someone pm me an invite?

thanks I know the odds are slim but I do have a few friends here ... I think!

I read this joke someone posted on gmailswap but still not got the invite. kind of sad as joke is good.

from Gmail's Help...

Because we're currently only offering Gmail as part of a preview release and limited test, we don't have details on when Gmail will be made more widely available.

As we make way for more accounts, we may periodically allow you to invite others to join Gmail. When we do so, you will see an invitation link in your inbox.

If you do not see the invitation link, that means that we are unable to provide you with additional invitations at this time.

To invite someone, click on the 'Invite a friend to join Gmail!' link in your inbox. You will then be asked to provide an email address and a personalized message to your invitee.

The person you invite will be sent a message that includes a link to join Gmail. That registration link will be valid for three weeks and can be used to create only one account.

Should your invitee have problems creating a Gmail account, please let us know by clicking on the 'contact us' link in the grey box below.

Please note that the link may not always be available. When you are allowed to invite others to join Gmail, the number of invitations that you can send will be indicated at the top of the page after you click on the link. Once you have used all of those invitations, we will not be able to immediately issue more invitations.

We have also created a sign up list for those who are interested in receiving updates on Gmail, but have not been invited.

I still dont understand the fuss about this thing. I just got an account ... the interface isnt even that sleek. I dont see why it warrants 83 pages (so far) of posts ...

LOL... That's YOUR opinion... MY opinion is that I LOVE the interface because it is SIMPLE, non-cluttered, especially with ads and dating garbage.

gmail seems to be fast, the shortcut keys are awesome, and i agree with the simplicity does make it attractive... no banners... 1 gig storage, etc. etc.
