Actually Gish isn't the first album. The first album is Siamese Dream. It was released on July 27, 1993 where Gish was released on October 4, 1994. According to Cdnow.com

Gish was indeed the first SP album. Siamese Dreams was a year or two after Gish. Both are sweet albums.

Gish was '91. They had three different tapes with 5-8 songs each that they sold at shows. However, Gish was the first major label record they put out. Siamese followed in 93. Man, Billy and Chamberlin could really rock in those days.
