My new stuff are already feeling old after just 2 weeks. It's hard to wait another 2 weeks for a cpu. 🙁

Yup thats exactly what I did. My 6300 will be here tomorrow and my DQ6 will be here Friday (hopefully). Then I will get a 6700 around the 1st of the year and pass this proc and new MoBo to my wife.

🙂

You guys are giving me ideas now. Now I'm considering in buying a 6300 now and 6600 later, which is clearly off my budget.

Silly idea if ya ask me... I'm feeling stupid considering going for the E6600 @ newegg if it comes in-stock over my $70-less-elsewhere pre-order, let alone buying a CPU to "tide me over" for a few weeks for $210! My new hardware that's been sitting here for several weeks now feels "old" even though it's never been used... darn you Intel, DARN YOUUUUUU!!!!

I suspect that even with the pretty good general availability of the 6300's... selling them at near what you paid for it once you get the 6600 won't be much of an issue.

My guess is that I'll lose about 50$ if I buy a 6300 and resell it, but 6600 will be at least 50$ over priced at first. I guess I wait till next week! :clock:

No I don't.. because the 6300 and 6400 are very popular among overclockers and will still be attractive to people looking for a good value.

fwiw, Tiger says they're shipping my E6600 no later than monday (14th) that I ordered last week.

The shipping zip is wrong on my order and they told me yesterday if I updated it, I'd end up at the end of the queue and I'd be better off updating UPS after the tracking number is issued. I'm guessing they've sold they're initial order out already.

From one of the other threads:

Michael at Winbook (http://www.winbook.com/ad_dest/pricewatch.html) says that they supposedly have all OEM Conroes in stock. E6600 is $359. He assured me that they were "physically in stock", so I ordered a 6600. He also told me that there was a "3 day lead time" to get the order shipped, which does not inspire much confidence that they *actually* have it, but we'll see. I'll cancel the order if they don't ship out by Monday.

From PCClub

"At this time, there had been a slight delay for the E6600. Our vendor won't be able to make delivery (for the Retail version of the E6600) until the 25th of the month."

There has been a "slight delay" of 29 days on the arrival of an "in-stock" item. You have to hand it to them, they have balls the size of grapefruit. So who's up for cutting them off...

FYI, buy.com has our E6600 order status ($340 with free shipping, before tax) as "Sent to Warehouse". Hopefully it will be here in under a week.

Their site indicates that it does come in box with ATX fan, if that's important to anyone.

dont count on it. Ive ordered items from buy.com that have been in "sent to warehouse" status for almost 3 weeks. And that was with items that had been on the market for a year or more.

Well if you really want an E6600 xpcgear has apparently decided to price match NewEgg. I at least expect this from them.

If you go to Froogle you'll also see that Retail E6600's are $349 at XPCGEAR:

Text

Call them and ask for their advertised Froogle price. Who knows, they might even honor it.

They claim that Froogle takes "a few days to update" (since when?) and that they won't honor it. I would have demanded to speak to his manager but he answered very quickly and thoroughly simply at the mention of Froogle so I think they've had a lot of these calls already.

The good news is that E6600 are clearly getting out in volume to smaller retailers so that means that ZZF and ScrewEgg should have a ton in the near future (maybe today).

My guess is that Intel is giving either vague or contradictory information to the distributors (you know how big companies are, one hand doesn?t have a clue what the other is doing) who are then giving a series of dates to the retailers in order to cover their asses and they probably toss in a best case scenario as well. The retailers then decide that they can only publish one so they might as well go with the best-case scenario. With every step through the channel things get more convoluted and optimistic.

Frankly I think Intel should have simply posted a page online, hired a few temps and for the first two weeks of the launch sold all of the chips to the public through Intel only at a preset and fixed price while supplies last. Then by the end of the two weeks all of the retailers will have chips in stock and be ready to go. Unlike the retailers and distributors, Intel doesn?t have an incentive to lie about day-to-day availability as it?s the only seller so it doesn?t need to compete and as such can avoid all of this confusion and aggravation. Central organization would also clear up a lot of the problems. The retailers would bitch about lost revenues but why should Intel care? The customers would be happy (or at least not angry at having been left in the dark) and Intel could pad its wallet a little.

In an ideal world, that would be great.

But in reality, Intel (and AMD) are too big to care at all about the enthusiast market, it doesn't even register on their radar screen. Therefore Intel has a lot more incentive to keep it's oem/distribution channel partners happy. Because that's who they talk to, they're the customer. Sorry, but Intel and AMD sales reps have no interest in ever talking to you unless you're interested in buying units measured in the many thousands.

If anyone is interested, the E6300 price on newegg has dropped to $229 (and it's still in stock). Prices on all other chips remain the same. At least they're getting closer to reasonable.
