so far, availability wise:

-newegg has all C2D listed, but only the E6300 is in stock. E6600 and above are way overpriced (IMO).
-zzf has the E6300 in stock as i type this. UPDATE - all core 2 duos will be shipped on august 7th. thanks to m21s for this.
-monarch is selling the cpus now, but they wont be shipping/getting them in until the end of august.
-tigerdirect - they are selling OEM versions now (no retail box, no core 2 duo inside sticker, 1 year warranty as opposed to 3 years with retail, no heatsink, only cpu chip)!
-saucertek gives me this message - "either you have attempted to order more items than we have in stock or we have reached our low quantity and cannot guarantee shipment, please enter a quantity LESS than or equal to 0." basically, they are out of stock.
-mwave has the E6300 in stock, but at a high price. every other C2D is out of stock.
-atacom has the E6300, E6600, E6700, and X6800...but their prices are too high. i have no idea when they will get the E6400.
-dell has their XPS 700 built to order with core 2 duos. UPDATE - will not ship computers with C2D until october. thanks to yacoub for this!

whenever anyone sees more links to buy core 2 duo, please post them here so we can consolidate everything into 1 thread. i already saw a thread in general hardware on zzf's core 2 duo!

if anyone wanted to know, im personally trying to secure a E6600. the rest of my build (in my sig) is done and ready to go.

I am seeking the E6600 as well. I have this thread up on one monitor and Newegg and ZZF on the other.

However I must confess I'm feeling a bit jaded if the intel P965 MB issue holds true.

Ahh Screw it...Bring on the chips!

E6600 hunting as well. Apparently cpu's were available at ZZF earlier but they sold out "instantly"...

Oh well, hope newegg dosent price gouge us.

I'm gonna be checking Newegg and ZZF every 30 minutes until 12:30am tonight.

This sucks that they had to come out on the 27th. I have to leave really early tomorrow morning to catch a plane, and I need to get some sleep, so I can't stay up until 3AM (I'm on the east coast) just for a chance at these. I do have to wake up at 6AM (3AM PT), and hopefully either they came out a little late or they are still available then.

i just installed the "reload every" extension for firefox. you set each individual tab/page to reload at 10 sec,30 sec, 1m, 5m, etc...haha, so i have zzf and newegg set to 30 seconds.

Although I am tired beyond belief (A full day at Six Flags Amusement park and a 3 hour ride there) I really want this. So I am going to stay up...

Well, since I got time...

I am kind of stuck between which Core 2 duo to get. It would be for gaming, with an X1900XT, on a $150 Intel board (possibly). Will I notice much of a noticable difference from the 6400 and the 6600? Also, I will not be overclocking. Or I don't plan on it for when I first get it.
