Okay...no dislikes, just one thing I wrote for likes:
"Please send me something that has to do with your area, something I could not get elsewhere."
Basically, I like learning about other places and the things that make that place unique. One year, my SS sent me some things about New England (I still have the calendar with those recipes!)
This year I got:
- a New York Post
- [Genuine!] salt water taffy from a local candy maker. An aside here: Let me tell you something about salt water taffy. It used to be the big candy treat that you could only get on the boardwalk or mom and pop shop at the beach, because it was made with the sea water. Nowadays, you can still find boxes of taffy at the beach, usually at the local surf shop or beachwear place that caters to out of towners. But have you looked at the box? It will probably say that is made now in the Phillipines or Taiwan. WTH? It seems that the market for this stuff is just trading on my generation's and my parent's memories of what used to be the good stuff.
And here is the good stuff, with all those wacky flavors here in my house. God bless you!
- And finally, the big, big gift - a growler (half gallon jug) of a locally brewed beer. Awesome! I shared it friends at a tween party (the day between Christmas and New Years) and we all really enjoyed it.
Now I have the benefit of taking the empty growler to my local Whole Foods and asking them where's my locally brewed beer to put in the growler The answer I know already, they don't have locally brewed beer, just high prices.
THANKS AGAIN, MY 2007 SECRET SANTA!
