** The Official 1/27 "Come See Our Latest Creation" Apple Media Event Thread **

Might as well start discussing here. I bet millions of eyes will be glued to Gizmodo and Engadget and those other live bloggers. You can discuss with ATers here.

Current rumors:
- Tablet
- iPhone OS 4.0
- End of iPhone exclusivity (Verizon?)

Changed my mind on the sticky; it would have been above the other sticky threads

The only reason Steve would resign is if he could start his own cult. Oh wait.

All of those seem reasonable on an individual basis, but that just seems like a lot of new stuff for one event. I am guessing new MBP's, new mac mini, and new tablet with iphone os 4.0 announced

My guess is they start with the unveiling of the iphone 4.0 OS, then a new apple TV and lastly the iSlate/iPad.

Don't forget the content management stuff. No point having an e-reader without newspapers, books, etc. According to engadget, McGraw-Hill's CEO supposedly already made a deal with Apple. And I've heard New York Times in a different story.

I saw a blurb on Wired about the same topic:

Apple is likely to debut a tablet on Wednesday -- but the bigger story will be an initiative to provide book, magazine and web publishers with an iTunes-based way to publish and sell content.

From a beta tester: Apple tablet is OLED + back has solar pad for recharging, but (the charger) really doesn’t work quickly. More a gimmick. Verizon+att, wifi yes!
Apple Tablet has thumbpads on each side for mouse gestures, reads fingerprint for security. Up to 5 profiles by fingerprint for family.
Yes, there are 2cameras: one in front and one in back (or it may be one with some double lens) so you record yourself and in front of you.
I can tell u the battery life is great in ebook reading mode but not great when on wifi or playing games. 2-3hrs.
Yes, the apple tablet is running an iphone os flavor with ability to have multiple apps running at same time (ie pandora, browser).
The price will be $599, $699 and $799 depending on size and memory in apple tablet. Also, wireless keyboard + monitor connection for TV.
Also, the apple tablet is really amazing for newspapers. Video conferencing is super stable, but nothing new.
The best part of the apple tablet as beta user has been the built in HDTV tuner and pvr, and the chess game.
Yes, it’s true… I’ve been beta testing the Apple tablet for the past two weeks and it’s amazing!

Wow...

Why would they put a DVR/tuner in it?

I dunno if I believe any of it... 😱

iDunno....

....whats coming out. Maybe a new iPod classic? 🙂 but seriously, I am no apple fanboy nor an apple hater but I could see myself getting into this tablet thing, IF the price is right.

Yeah I'm really not getting my hopes up on the price thing. We all know it's not going to be cheap but part of me really feels like this will be another Macbook Air type device. It'll be intriguing, sure, but in the end most people (aside from Apple fanboys that'll buy anything from Apple) just won't care.

Guess we'll see in a few hours nevertheless.

If it's under $600, I think I'll buy it. I would love something to browse/nef on while I am sitting on my couch. My laptop just doesn't cut it these days, and netbooks are too retarded.

I have a hard time believing that they would tie the tablet to a non-GSM carrier. That would mean different versions for other countries. unless they make it a "World Tablet" with SIM slot as well.

Agreed. If the $800+ price tag WITH a contract is correct I'll pass.

Also they would lose the significant part of their market. Most apple people are with AT&T and prob stuck for a year or 2. They have to go AT&T atleast, maybe others. I still think it will be $1k. Worth it depending...

I have class all day but will be checking back here to see what has happen. I think this is the first time i have ever been excited for an apple event.

If apple tries to sell it at 800-1000. It'll be an utter flop.

Without question. I see a tablet as an alternative to a netbook. I can see paying a bit more than you would for a crappy little netbook, but not $800-$1000.

I think they will go with Verizon due to the US backlash against AT&T (with good reason, my coverage on my iphone sucks and in truth I'd break my deal with AT&T to go to Verizon if they had the iphone). I think apple and verizon are the perfect combo.

But yet, $1000 will result in total fail.
