Gonna have to agree. I actually held off buying a new laptop because of this device announcement but having seen it...meh.

This is just a decent looking MID.

That's not to say they couldn't add features though. If it had the camera and was an actual tablet device I would have bought one right away.

This thing is a complete fail. It's a large iPod Touch with a fricking huge border. And for something they claim is better than a laptop for web browsing, why is there still no sign of Flash support? And why no sign of multi-tasking?

Whats the screen res on it?

Looks like 960 x 480.

Colour me unimpressed. Jobs is suggesting this is somehow better than a Netbook, yet it appears to be missing a webcam and mic amongst other things. I use skype on my Netbook, in fact I use almost everything I do on my bigger laptops, apart from major image manipulation, video editing and Virtual Machines. This is also before condidering that a Netbook is self supporting if you are in the living room watching TV, it sits there on the arm of the couch with the screen at the right angle. The iPad will demand you hold it or find a flat surface to stand it up on. That will also suck for movies, too, right?

If it IS aimed at the netbook space, then it need to be a netbook price, but it won't be. It will be priced around the 16" Wintel laptop range.

Name sucks.

10 hours running a video is pretty darned good. Hopefully playing a game of some sort will last just as long, and longer doing stuff like reading emails or some sort of office type task.

The custom Apple A4 CPU news is interesting. PA Semi acquisition in play obviously.

Games didn't work on the iPhone; they still don't work here.

Games work just fine on the iPhone, though I am hesitantly agreeing with you on the iPad.

My thoughts:
Name sucks
Lock screen is weak, does not feel like Apple at all
Home screen is also weak.
Was hoping for a more unique OS, a larger screen presents its own problems that can't be solved by just scaling an interface up or down (iPhone OS Up, OS X Down).

Battery life is good
Size looks good
Apple Apps look really really nice

Webcam + tablet + new iChat which would allow you to collaborate via video conferencing and multi-user tablet software (like google wave but better) would have been full of win.

Some games work beautifuly on iphone and I got hooked on a few of them. You can't expect xbox quality type of games. But I agree, on the ipad it doesnt look so good.

You're going to seriously pitch an oversized iPhone with an LCD screen as an eReader? Really?

For the record, gaming is great on the iphone..current favorites are GTA chinatown, and C&C
The iPhone version has nothing on the original DS version. It plays a hell of a lot better when you have real buttons. (And yes, I've played the DS, PSP, and iPhone versions)

Not going to disagree, but for a phone, it does a damn good job at gaming.

But if they did that then who would buy the next revision. Apple knows the die hards will buy this model then buy again when they do improvements. Look at the iPhone. Everyone knew EDGE sucked, but people lined up all over the country and paid $600 for it. Then when the 3G came out they did the same thing... and some probably did it again with the 3GS.
