The fact that it's exclusive on the market makes me avoid it despite wanting one.

I will wait for more brands/models to enter competition before I seal my fate to Nvidia for a few years.

It's not exclusive. Several companies are going to be offering G-Sync monitors. This is just the early adoption/prototype model made available. Hardly anyone will buy it, and I'm certain they are aware of that.

You can bet during CES that Nvidia will be marketing GSync hard and also have more information on vendors (well, I imagine they will).
 
There is currently only one model available, the modified ASUS screen.

That's exclusive, as in there is only one option.

There will be more, but right now there is only one, exclusive product = exclusive price.
 
With the CES around the corner and - even from Asus - new teasers it makes no sense to rush out and buy this monitor.

I wait and see what will come to the market in the next months.
 
I saw someone post that Asus has on the road map a 1440p IPS screen with gsync on their roadmap. Alas I can't now find the link so it should be treated as hearsay of a rumour (ie worth like nothing) but if its true that is good news.

The people that won the gsync kits on pcper.com have been reporting in on the experience of upgrade and what its like. One of them likened it to feeling of going to 60->120hz. They said it was about 50% more of that improvement again on top of the improvement already received from going to 120hz screen.

They all commented on how washed out the Asus screen is though, and at £441 I will not be buying an otherwise terrible monitor. If it was a bit more like the price Nvidia first described I would be more interested, but the markup is more than twice that expected.

I don't know if it is any different than said. They said the DIY kit would be about $170. They sold the DIY kits to boutiques who have then installed them, and market it up from there a bit.

It's not until they are shipped with the chips installed that we'll see the $100 markups.

Yeah just saw that.

Getting that when it comes out if it's 120hz.

Hopefully GM104 or GM100 comes out by then. Might have to settle for GM106 though.

I thought it was $100? Seems kinda steep either way for just one feature, doesn't it? I mean imagine if every time a new feature was added it cost $100-$200. D:

$100 is for the monitors with it installed at the factory. The DIY kit was rumored at $170. What we have seen up to this point have been DIY kits.

Most GPU features are free, this one requires special hardware, what do you expect? I'm sure costs will come down in the future.

You don't have to buy it if you don't want it. You don't have to pay extra for higher end monitors either. You don't have to pay for 120hz or 144hz either. All these features do cost extra.

While I was stating my opinion, as we all do here, there's no reason to make it personal, OK.
 
Initially Nvidia said it was going to be $100, hopefully less. Then it became clear in December that it was going to be more like $170, quite a lot more than what they previous said. Now its been released in such a way that its basically impossible to get the DIY kit and you have to buy it preinstalled by a company, who are also enacting a markup as well. All in all its adding £200 to the monitor in the UK, which is like $300.

But Q2 we should be seeing a 2560x1440 (no idea on refresh rate) monitor along with multiple versions of 24"/27" 1080p monitors. AOC and Benq monitors have already been spotted (the later having both sizes at 1080p).

Judging by the reviews, $100 seems like a fair deal for the technology. Especially those already in the market for a new monitor.

Are you seriously offended by me saying you don't have to purchase one, or any other product that cost extra? It is not an attack, just a statement of fact. No one is forcing anyone to pay extra for new features.
 
Not everyone thought it was limited to 1080p displays. The reality is, Nvidia stated that they wanted to support everything up to 4k displays. We just never had any more info than the one monitor used in the prototype.

It seems the 4k display announcements are coming sooner than expected.
 
Wow, for just two easy installments of a car payment you too can enjoy butter smooth 4k at "greater than 120Hz"...

You know if my 780 wouldn't get it's b-u-t-t kicked in just about everything with that screen I'd almost consider it.

Hmmm. I wonder if I could do without IPS, because that is rather tempting. G-Sync will make 4k playable with FXAA (I don't think MSAA is going to be necessary).

If it isn't IPS, it's AMVA. Which is just as good with better black levels. You just don't get 10 bit adobe RGB color, which is a non issue if you're a gamer.

780 SLI is just the same, and won't last as long D:
