Similar to buy SDD for overpriced low storage device, yet incredible difference one can not argue against.

According to Linus there is no requirement for 120Hz, so IPS panels with low refresh rates can work with G-Sync assuming OEMs which don't care about Gaming IPS panels decide to put it in.

Overlord might be a good bet however.

I'd like to argue against it, what is this issue people have with input lag? I've been using V-sync forever and I've never had input lag.

You've had input lag, you just have not noticed it.

It is like a lot of the "better" technologies; certain people are more susceptible to the impacts.

You'll probably just used to the input lag. Turn off V-sync and you may notice an immediate change in how much more responsive the game feels, or the mouse movements at least. Though the biggest amount of lag you may notice, in regards to having V-sync on, is when it causes a massive drop in FPS, or when you are pinned at 60 FPS in a DX game that uses triple buffering.

That said, not everyone is the same, and some are more sensitive than others. I get nauseated from latency. Some of this latency is also known to cause a bit of stuttering as it is not consistently applied from one frame to the next.

Everyone has different sensitivity to input lag. I'm moderately sensitive at best. I understand it's a bigger deal for truly competitive/professional FPS gamers for whom every split second counts.

Though even then, I do wonder how much of this obsession comes from the frustration of competitive gamers who die due to NETWORK lag 🙂
 
So disappointing that its only limited releases to the US and Canada today. I really do want to pick up one of these monitors and the module and play with it.

The input lag can't be more than 16.7 ms on a 60hz monitor, how can anyone be susceptible to 16.7 ms?
Our brains are more powerful than any supercomputer ever built. Why are you surprised that we can notice the difference between 16.7ms variances?

The guys working on Oculus Rift have been finding that their target latency continues to shrink as they keep finding we are more and more sensitive to latency than they previously thought. They currently are finding that they want under 8ms of latency in order to be considered good.

I get sick at 60 FPS, which are frames which include at least 16ms of latency. I need 80+ FPS to not get nauseated when gaming in first person games.

I noticed something strange in that video. The Vsync/Gsync comparison looked great. But when it went to Gsync alone at the end of the video I started seeing hitching in the pillars, but not in the pendulum.

Could it be because I watched on a 120hz monitor?
 
I can say this, no matter how the video is created, you are still watching it on a fix refresh monitor and there is no way to get an exact replica of what G-sync does. They are trying to mimic it the best way they can, but it cannot be replicated.

I didn't see any hitching myself. I looked for it since you mentioned it, but it wasn't there.

I believe you may be confusion input lag with screen redraw time, I.e. 1/refresh rate.

Input lag is the total amount of time it takes for an image to display on-screen after entering the input from the source/GPU. It is a function of many things including latency from the cable (DVI, DP etc. - longer cable means more latency) plus processing by the monitor itself (resolution scaling, processing of effects entered in the OSD, plus of course, the time it takes for the signal to reach these internals from the input port, via the input PCB, the timing controller, etc.etc etc.). The time all this takes can vary, and is not necessarily less than 16.67ms
 
What I'm saying is there is no such hardware configuration where you can maintain 60 fps at all times.

And even compared to locked v-sync 60 there are benefits to g-sync.
