alright, this took me a while to do, but i think we have an answer to the age old nvidia versus ati thing. pardon poor grammar and spelling, its terrible in terms of that. i hope this answers everyones questions and eliminates any confusion surrounding wich company is the best. Inspired by this.

ATI versus nvidia:

Stocks:

Stocks and the health of the company are very good ways to determine how well a video card will perform in games that have not been released yet and how current games perform. This is a very critical area to gamers today. We can say that their company health accounts for 20 of their cards performance.

ATI: 3.68B market cap, 29.51 PE Ratio, $14.93 per share
nvidia: 2.16B market cap, 40.12 PE Ratio, $12.96 per share

Winner: ATI

Cronnies:

A company can only be as good as the peole that support it. According to 1984, if everyone believed something, then it is real. Sheer human will can overcome the physical world according to the principals of IngSoc. Therefore, we have to look at 2 of the most powerful fanboys in the gaming world. John carmack, judging from photographs weighs in around 160lbs at the most. Gabe newell appears to be upwords of 300lbs. Gabe newell is twice the man john carmack is. Therefore, everything he belives counts double. The will of the two gods of gaming count 20 of the total performance of their cards.

ATI: Gabe Newell
Nvidia: John Carmack

Winner: ATI

Crystall ball

Hoping in the company you likes future products is the only way you live. The performance of parts that are going to be released 8 months from now will surely have an effect on the card you are currently using. Expecially games based on engines that have not been released yet that are rumored to run better on ATI or nvidia. For example, Doom3 based games versus half life 2 based games. I have observed signs in the stars and in the heavens, even looked into my broadsword. I have concluded that there is a cycle in the seasons. look at the letters ATI and nVidia. AT comes before NV and the I are the same. So, we can conclude that since nvidia has a longer name than ATI that they will last longer and that the NV 50 will crush R520. 10 points

winner: Nvidia.

Nationality

The patriotism of a country helps determines video card performance. The nations would gladly get behind their company to defend it againts any international threat. For example, ATI could hire mercenaries that could attack nvidia's hedquarters. The US has a massive army that could help defend nvidia against the tank, should canada chose to send their tank to aid the mercenaries of ATI. The country of origin adds another 20 to the total performance of the cards

ATI: Canada
nvidia: US

Winner: nVidia

Luck

The luck scores were determined by roulette. The goal of the roulette game was to see what side fortune was on. Fortune could be a big value when it comes to what card is going to be best for your machine. The chances of yours not working while everyone elses works fine. If you go with the luckiest manufacturer you will surely have less problems and no one will be able to say, mine works great, while you are sitting with the blue screen of death. I pulled out my roulette table, ATI was red, nvidia was black. To my suprise, it landed on green 2/4 of the times i rolled. I must conclude that this was a sign that Matrox was the lucky one. Matrox gets 20.

ATI: 1
nvidia: 1
Matrox: 2

Winner: Matrox

Market Share

The amount of people that own a particluar video card helps. As stated in the cronnies section, the will of the people alone can cause benchmarks to change. Winston Smith, in 1984, really saw 5 fingers held up when he was told, even tho O'brian really heald 4. O'Brian belived 5, Smith believed 5, so, since concept of reality exists only in the minds of humans, there were 5 fingers being held up. The amount of n00bs running their Counter Strike on their Emachines and compaqs account for the general public, and by their unknowing will, the power of the video card brand they use increases the performance of the others. since they believe that thiers is the best. the will of the people to make the video cards run faster acounts for 20.

ATI: 23.2
nVidia: 23.2

Babes

If you are reading this and understanding it, then you are most likely a nerd. We have very poor skills with the womens and therefore must result in getting our fantasies from the near life like womens that the video card makers supply us with. In the next few years, thanks to ATI and nVidia, we will have real time, life like womens to tottaly replace the whiney little biatches (should not say all, but a good portion, including all the chicks in the past that i have had relationships with) that exist in real life. A few modifications to our computers, such as a electric pleasure device mounted in a 5 1/4" bay, can simulate the human mating expierance, when combined with life like Artificial Intellegance 3d rendred females on the PC. This accounts for 20%. ATI has a lesbian looking chick, on the scale (1 never, 2 drunk and deny, 3 drunk and admit, 4 sober, 5 sober and brag), she rates a mere 2. the majority of nvidias chicks may have lesbian hair cuts but have fair faces and body. But their recent endevors (even tho they are not human below the waiste) rate a 4.5

Marketing Buzz

I belive it all started with 3dfx. This is 20 of the final score. lets start from the begining

/lets take a trip to canada

Our line of cards is confusing with VE and LE and LELE etc. lets steal 3dfx naming scheme and make it even better by using it to signify directx version compatablilty.

lets change the name of our radeon VE to radeon 7000

but people will think low of the original radeon becuase the other has a 7000 next to it and people will think the 7000 better. lets rebag it and call it 7200.

7500 comes and goes

8500 comes

8500LE , make you think limited edition eh? LOWER THE CLOCKSPEEDS!, now its slower than the 8500

9000 Hey, lets make a 8500 real cheap to make and take away its performance, but they will think it is better becuse of the higher the number the higher the performance, plus they are cheaper to make so we will make $$$$$$$$. it goes against our entire naming scheme becuase it is not directx 9 but who cares.

now lets call our new highend part a 9700 pro, PRO sounds cooler and 700 is higher than the 600 on the geforce

downclock it and call our 300 dollor card a regular 9700.

then lets take the 9700 and disable the 256 bit memory bus and call it a 9500 pro.

Nah! lets take it a step further and disable some more pipelines and make yet another card called the 9500, becuase 500 is higher tan 400 on the geforce.

Uh OH, people were smarter than we thought, they are realizing that the 9000 is slower than a 8500 even tho its number is higher, lets take a 8500LE and just change its number to 9100. there that fixed it.

I cant find my butt with both hands, so lets make the same mistake again and make a 8xagp 9000 and call it a 9200, its cheaper to make and people will think it is faster becuase the number is higher than a 9100 even tho its not.

Now, we got this new value card and we dont know where to put it. since it is new, we cant call it 9400 becuase that make it a lower number than the one that it is supposed to replace. lets just call it 9600 even though the 9500 beats it at the speeds we choose for it.

Lets o/c the 9700 pro and call it the 9800 pro

/meanwhile in santa clara

ATI Stole 3dfx naming scheme and used higher number than US. i guess it is now an industry standard, i was used to using MX to get away with stuff and they always used VE and LE, now we got to make numbers TOO. Quickly make the new versions of the geforce3 be called TI, yeh Titanium, people love titanium and large multiples of 100.

geforce4 comes and goes

Raddy 9700s come

dang, ati owned us, we need better marketing! FAST!!

lets make our Geforce line 8Xagp and increase prices eventhough there is no performance boast, and make the number higher. there that will hold them off till the next generation.

We got this new geforceFX and we are going to make the number of the lower end one higher than the previous generation eventhough it does not outperforms it, the 5200 is born.

600 is higher than 500 so our new card will be called 5600 ULTRA, becuase ultra is better than PRO

same with all nvidia cards after that. Mr. Huang needs to stop playing throw the dart at the 3dfx engineers and put them to work on integrating 3dfx and nvidia technology so the graphics card deserve a higher number

/back to canada, this time to Matrox

we have not done anything in a while. lets make the parhelia 512 bit, the console market seems to do well with identifining with bits, lets hope we can do the same for the graphics industry. Ah what the hell, or stuff sucks at 3d, lets only do really good multiple monitors with good 2d, that way you can have pr0n on 8 differant monitors at once! geeks will love us.

/back to america, this time to trident

Marketing make head hurt. me use XP as name

(after getting owned in the benchies during the NV3X years, nvidia is ready again)

Nvidia: ok, back to marketing, drop the FX name, let that die, man that sucked, oh well.

ATI: Lets see, i dont think people can understand digits with more than 4 numbers, so lets go over to "X", and make the X800, dont bother calling it X700, like the 9700 line, lets make it higher and better!

nvidia: 6800 has DX9C and yours dont!

ATI: i will just say that no game uses DX9C right now, yeh, that will do it. (even tho i said that DX9 was the thing to have back in the 9700 pro days, even when no game used it)

Nvidia: DX9C is an important feature! you need it! even tho no game uses it hardly! (even tho i said DX9 was useless when the 9700 pro was owning me)

Conclusion: They are both idiots, S3 has no hope either
winner: ralph nader

Results:
ATI: 40
Nvidia: 50
Matrox: 20
Ralph Nader: 10

conclusion: stop being fanboys, buy matrox, vote nader in 2004, and then move to canada.

If we ever meet IRL dinner&drinks are on me  Having a laugh at the expense of those who take hardware far too seriously is always a winner with me.

EDIT:About the babes thing though, I'm not a geek/nerd just eclectic :sun: Nor is my wifey a whiner or biatch. In fact, she's a peach :)

It was partially my fault as I supported the cookie petition in forum issues, and was even willing to design teh icon for them. I think it's a good thing for the forums, as can be seen in this quote:

It's mainly for the Off Topic and P&N Forum areas for folks that make really nonsensical posts, what everyone calls Trolls and Troll posts. It's sort of like with the Blue Collar Comedy Tour when the guys say "Here's Your Sign", instead it's "Have a Cookie".

You are technically in a Politically Correct Anandtech way dissing the Troll.

Enjoy

The AT Culture and Community is becoming more world renowned everyday.

:lips:

*EDIT* I'm in no way calling you a troll as I don't fully agree with dmcowen's definition of the cookie. As with many other words in the english language, the cookie has many meanings.

My primate friend, you just confirmed my suspicions with the explanation. This site is continuously moving ever closer to that blue collar comedy level of response as opposed to more intellectually driven repartee' :(

Indeed, but IMO it's better to have lighthearted cookie icons as opposed to PWNED, STFU, and REPOST icons. There's enough flaming going on as it is.

Most of the blue collar comedy goes on over in OT and P&N, so as long as you avoid those areas you should be fine. IME the CPU forum creates the best intellectual discussion here, along with maybe HT and Software.

I agree with you though; it seems as though these boards are slowly turning into a generic chat room as opposed to a place to intelligently discuss computer hardware.

I'll stop now before they move this thread to forum issues and start throwing cookies at us.

lol great read.

I wish you were around when 3dfx was on its last leg, the flame wars from back then were 10000x times worse.

I saw the thread title this morning and would not come into the thread.

But curoisity got the best of me, and against my better judgement I came in here anyways.

Funny read.

R300 based chips were developed in the US. If ATI is employing US engineers that should count for something.

I think if you e-mailed the contents of the original post to the inquirer, it would surely be posted in their "letters" section. I suppose it depends on whether or not your want fame and notoriety. :cookie:
