Because the armistice that ended the Great War, the war to end all wars (WWI) was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we celebrate Veterans Day, renamed from Armistice Day in the 1950's to encompass WWII, Korea and all conflicts in which Americans died under the Stars and Stripes on Nov. 11th.

At work today we had a moment of silence, followed by taps played on the intercom. There was also a display of military uniforms through the years. It was nice.

It was one of the most moving experiences for me ever.
That pic I posted is from the WW II Memorial just before it opened (I missed the opening ceremony by a couple days :/). If you're in DC, these are must-see. It really makes you appreciate what has been done for you at great cost by the sacrifice of total strangers.
