The NFL to punish players for "dangerous" tackling

Thats the determining factor, flagrant. I've been seeing that word on ESPN all day.

2 of those helmet to helmet hits were intentional. There is no reason those guys should be doing that. I'm all for letting boys be boys...but its getting out of hand. I don't think anyone wants to see any more serious injuries.

Apparently, fining them wasn't sending a strong enough message.

LOL

Those guys make millions. Do you think they care about a $10k fine?

Ochocinco Tweeted today that he's already planted a prop in each end zone for this weeks game. He knows that he's going to get fined. If it costs him $25k, do you think he'll even notice? Its one less bird incubator he won't be able to buy.

they are going to legislate this game to death. forbidding hitting high means they will hit low, then flagrant hits at the knee will be banned. i think sunday's hits were too much, but they shouldn't be subject to retroactive penalties.

Here it comes....

Now the officials will carry a red flag along with the normal yellow flag. If you get a red flag you're out for the rest of the game and your team must play a man down.

Football is now futbol. NFL players will writhe around on the turf hoping the official will believe they have been brutally injured thus increasing the chance of the red flag. It will be awesome.

Actually it has always been possible to get ejected, just rare that a player does something so bad that a ref will punt them.

This is really bad. It's a dangerous sport. The purpose of hitting the receiver or TE so hard is to make them drop the ball or not be able to complete the catch. Sure you're trying to tackle them and wrap up but even better if you can hit them so hard they can't hold onto the ball and complete the pass.

This is terrible, this idea.

The only idea that is a good idea is to remove helmets from the game entirely. Let's see them go for head-to-head hits then!

I must have done a very bad job in my post. 😛

I get it. It's actually something I was thinking about recently, since in football people are less dramatic as in other sports, like basketball. 99% of the time if a guy is still on the ground after the play, they are in fact injured.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm fine with the ejections and fines and possibly even some kind of suspension for blatant spearing. But head to head hits are still going to happen inadvertently and many times it's the tackling guy that gets hurt.

The reason to hit so hard is still there, you're trying to make them drop the ball. Then there's the psychological aspect of the receiver thinking more about getting hit than completing the pass. It's part of the game. To take that away would take away an entire dimension of the game and I don't support it one bit.

Oh I know, it's just a little joke I've been saying for awhile. That 'inadvertent' % will go way down as soon as you remove helmets from the game entirely.

What a joke.

Why do these people think they make millions?

Because they entertain people by hitting other players.
