I'm very happy to hear that they're really putting a focus on the gameplay and then caking on the eye candy after. Malcolm looks amazing :Q

I remember back when Nvidia was prepping the GeForce 3 Ti and they claimed they'd be doing Toy Story in real time in around 5 years, and the Pixar guys just laughed at them.

Hope Pixar is ready to suck those words right back down their throat, or Jen Hsun Huang and Dave Orton are going to stuff them back down.

I wonder how much a physx card is going to help with the system requirements for this.

Looks good, conquest mode sounds interesting (3x bigger than ons, plus resource management). I hope they do keep ons mode and don't do away with assault completely.

I'm sure some of you out there would still like to believe that :)

Hell, compare it to Final Fantasy: Spirits Within if you want:

We may not be 100% offline render quality yet, but Unreal Engine 3 is VERY close. Another generation or two of cards, and that level of quality in real time shouldn't be an issue.

So all told, I'd say Jen Hsun thought we'd get there about 1 - 2 years before we actually will - but I am willing to forgive that.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. He just doesn't look right, and I think the comparison to a plastic action figure is accurate.

You guys are completely ignorant for praising pre-release shots. Yes, they look fvcking fantastic, but will the graphics look that damn great during gameplay? Doubtful. Looks as if the engine is quite capable, and I'm sure the game will look great, but don't get ahead of yourself guys.

Actually it probably will look that great. We are talking late 2006 probably for the release. Between all the new technology, I think it's feasible. We'll be sitting on PPU's and 512mb video cards by then.

If they hadn't already demo'd videos with this level of graphical detail, I might say you have a point.

Also, all of Epic's previous releases have looked as good, if not better, than their pre-release screenshots - assuming that you had the hardware to crank everything up. Epic is an awesome developer like that.

Go DL some videos of Unreal Engine 3 in action, and tell me you don't think it looks that good. Everything I've seen has been on par.

Unreal was known for having great graphics. UT was known for having great gameplay. I think whatever this is going to be, it'll probably be a combination. Personally, I didn't like UT2k3 or 2k4, but I did like UT. I think I grew into different parts of the FPS genre after UT, about when all the military games came out. I think I'd be interested in going back for this Conquest gameplay, I did enjoy Assault.

That's odd, works fine for everyone else. Try 1up.com homepage?

well, real time renderers still cant do caustics, sub surface scattering, propper raytraced reflections, radiosity and so on

so no, real time renderers still have a long long way to go to catch up to renderman
