Communication is of extreme importance...

Especially when part of your job is to communicate with other world leaders!!!!!!!

You mean like when some official told Saddam the U.S.'s stance on border disputes with Kuwait don't concern us (ok I'm paraphrasing but you get the idea) Which Saddam took to mean he could invade which started the 91 Gulf War which in turn caused the unfortunate incident with the bombing of a civilian Iraqi building which then caused the subsequent attack of WTC in 93 which failed. Then when the FBI was sent looking for the Lewinsky line of semen stained clothing (and you though Donna Karen was popular) which our enemies subsequently saw as a ripe opportunity to plan another attack in 2001?

hope that doesn't seem like the worst run on sentence in the world.

This was not speaking with leaders. This was making a speech.

Someone who is not suited to public speaking has a tendency to read from the script. This is often can lead just the kind of blunders we see here.

Wasn't it Taft that spoke with a stutter? No chance to get elected in these days of style over substance.

No need to debate it, no need to argue. Just read and enjoy  This isn't about politics 😀

Many in the crowd laughed when Bush struggled to answer a question about what tribal sovereignty means for Native American tribes in the 21st century.

"Tribal sovereignty means that; it's sovereign. I mean, you're a -- you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And therefore the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities," Bush replied.

Its not exactly an easy question to answer. The native americans consider themselves soveirgn nations but rely completely on the US for everything they have.

I was watching this live when she asked the question, it was unclear even what exactly she was asking, let alone what answer she was looking for.

Edit: that also wasnt his full reply to the question... he discussed the current issues with the administration and the tribal govts not communicating well on multiple fronts... and stated what needed to be worked on.

Bush is a moron. I think my 11 year old nephew is more intelligent than him.

The fact that some of you think his speaking skills are 'ok' or 'average' shows how stupid many Americans really are. I'm amazed that anyone would still vote for Bush after the past 3.5 years.

Throw Kerry the same question without him knowing what is coming and see what he says.

I don't say this to defend Bush, I just like equilibrium.

I agree it's hard to answer questions on the fly, but it's pretty easy to just say "It means they are considered separate nations from the US and enjoy certain legal benefits (like casinos and fireworks) as a result"

If you just put a word like "separate" or "distinct" in a couple places where Bush said "sovereign", his quote doesn't sound bad at all.

None of you know a thing about politics, yet you all act like you know what someone should have done. Lets put you on stage where 1 million people are watching you and start asking random questions. Then after, millions more will pick apart every single word you said as a response looking for hidden meanings and slip-ups.

I'm sure that if you got face to face with him and asked him, gave him 30 seconds to think about it, he would be able to come up with a good answer. But when you're on stage and expected to give an answer RIGHT NOW, then comments like this happen.

Bush has given some awesome speaches during his time as president. However, only the bad ones get press and everyone talks about him like he only gives bad ones. It's like in football. You could catch 1000 straight balls, then drop one in the end zone and suddenly you are Mr. Butterfingers. You then catch 1000 balls again and drop another one in the end zone, suddenly the fans hate you for blowing 2 games despite all the great work you did earlier.

Yeah but if your are like the DUb and mediocre at best then the fans patience with you is very low!

He must be an idiot... i thought he spoke extremely well at UNITY.

Edit: at least he had some color, Kerry almost made me fall asleep the day before at the same conference. That man could make describing a bj boring.
