Indeed. Even Hair is controversial over there. It's a a highly prized commodity because they know dumbass American women will pay thousands of dollars for imported hair. Much of the religion has the women indoctrinated into believing they show their faith by giving up their hair, which the church then sells for a gigantic profit.

And that's just HAIR. 🙄 Lordly knows what kinds of SERIOUS problems they have.
 
Could be at least one of several possibilities.

If she was definitely known to be epileptic, there is a phenomenon known as SUDEP

Seizures/syncope (fainting sometime associated with seizure like jerking not of epileptic origin can also precede cardiac arrest Link

The other possibility, though not always seen is that there can be a short period of seizure like activity accompanying a sudden cardiac arrest. In someone this young, you would strongly suspect a congenital problem, like prolonged QT Syndrome. It looks like the seizure preceded the arrest but it actually was the other way around. Its just hard to check a pulse on a seizing person.... Unless you already had them on EKG monitoring and could see the cardiac problem come first you wouldn't know

The differential on all these can be complex as both cardiac disturbances, and seizures can mimic one another.

As a medic I try to quickly determine which it is, but this can be very difficult.

In fact, in some patients continuous monitoring of both EKG and EEG is done for up to a week or more under video observation in hospital is performed if there are indications of both. It might happen to cost around $3k/day for a service like this at an internationally known facility, and I might just have accompanied someone for this week long process.....

Wow, that's too bad. Props to Bill Gates for doing what he could and helping out - it's nice to see someone doing things like that.

I remember reading about her when she got her MCP. I think I had just failed geometry for the third time lol. Some kids just come to earth with crazy natural talents and work ethics...
 
Wow that's sad. But coming from a 3rd world country I can only imagine the stuff she's been through and probably had conditions for a long time that could have been detected and cured way before.
 
i haven't been this sad about a death in a long time, and i had never heard of her until this thread. so many opportunities...

First, Microsoft was ultimately the root of her success. Arguably, if she didn't get her MCP, she never would have been discovered.

Second, Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, tried to save her life.

Have any of you seen someone going through a grand mal cataleptic seizure? When I briefly worked at a children's hospital, I got to witness more than my share.

Maybe you have to see it to believe it, as every muscle in the human body goes into uncontrollable spasms and extreme stress. Hence I am not surprised that said young genius died young.

Severe epilepsy is a cruel disease I would not wish on my own worse enemy. But blaming it on subsequent events is foolish, the unfortunate girl just was born with a very horrible combination of human genes.

The other thing to say is that those born with less severe cases of epilepsy can lead more normal lives and find drugs to control their problems. And for that matter those born without epilepsy can suffer the disease after severe brain trauma. There by the grace of God go you and I.

So if I get a microsoft cert, can I be the next bill gates?

I guess the point is the fact that she got it at 9, meaning she's really smart, but yeah it's kinda misleading if you don't read between the lines.
