Why is it that on the news they can show murders, shootings, dead bodies, and whatever other negative thing they can find to put on the air? I don't understand it. Whats the purpose of censoring regular brodcast television when the news is pumping out all the negative things the government is trying to protect the public from by censorship. What a big waste of time and money. I think if the media would focus more on positive things instead of the bad. The world might be a better place.

Uhg!

I agree with you. I was watching a news program yesterday and they showed a guy breaking his arm while playing soccer (he fell on it). They did a slow-mo, and you saw the bone break and the arm go in the wrong direction. I almost threw-up. There is just something not right about that. They should have at least warned me... I am getting queasy just thinking about it now... :disgust:

It's human nature. That's why so many people like to stop and look at accidents on the highway too. They know it's going to be bad and gruesome but they want to see it anyway.

If you think that's bad, you should see news in third-world countries. They show things like that every day, and worse. In the US we're very desensitized to things that happen around us and don't even realize it. If you want some good news, go check out that one site where they do the news without their clothes on. I forgot, I can't link to it :(

Here's something easier and requiring less laws - Don't watch it! Then tell all of your friends and family not to watch it. Keep the ball rolling.

News stations put that on the air because that's what gets the ratings. You could have two stories on the news, one discussing the brutal beating of a child, and one talking about the possible findings of a cure for aids. One impacts the lives of one child and his family friends. The other could possibly save the lives of millions of people. Guess which one the people will be talking about the next day?

News thrives on shock value because that's what gets attention.

divinemartyr, I think you're referring to the aptly-named Naked News - not that I'm going to post a link (hiding from the anti-porn Mod). You can guess how to get there. ;)

I don't watch the news anymore - I'll have it on and listen to it, but I do not look at the television unless I hear something that sounds interesting enough to look at. Nine times out of ten the visuals don't add all that much anyway, and I don't need to see bones breaking or dead bodies while I'm thinking about what to have for dinner.

I concur...

Don't watch it. I can barely read my newspaper without breaking into tears, so why watch the news?

*news reporter in Iraq/Iran/whatever speaking to Saddam who is currently shuffling around a variety of bloody human limbs and entrails*

[reporter] So, Saddam... what are you doing?
[Saddam] Decorating.
[reporter] How do the people of your country feel about your leadership?
[Saddam] Hard to say...
[reporter] Why?
[Saddam] They are dead.

You do know there a little clause in the constintion some thing about a free press I don't think it would go over to well to pass a law saying what news stations can and can't put on the news.

that's nothing, once i was watching a mexican tv station and watched it's news... OMG...

it showed some rebels in south america getting gunned down by machine guns and such. one was running at a soldier with a large stick, next thing you know, blood starts splattering out of him and he continues running a few more seconds before he collapses at the soldiers feet.

that left me shaken for a while, US news is nothing, and you say american's are desensitized... :disgust:
