Yeah - but doesn't that mean kidney pie or haggis or something else gross like that?

Sort of like kettle?

Your knowledge on savory pies is weak young padawan. First of all, haggis is not pie. It's sausage.

Now for savory pies, you've got options beyond the kidney variety.
-Steak and ale. Tender chunks of steak in a rich ale gravy.
-Pork pie: A dense crust pie of chopped pork and jelly, served cold. Aka Mowbray pie.
-Scotch Pie: A dense crust pie of ground beef and onion gravy
-Chicken and Mushroom pie: a variant on the classic chicken pot pie.
-Cornish Pasty: Minced meat, potatoes, and veg in a pastry pocket. It's pie you can eat with one hand!
-Jamaican patty: popular across the commonwealth, spicy ground beef in a golden yellow crust.
-Samosa: another handheld pie, from India. Filled with either minced veg or chicken.
-Stargazy Pie: Mmm, fish heads. I'll admit this is a truly vile concoction.

Of course not all pies have pastry crust. On to potato crusts!
-Sheppard's pie: classic, ground lamb with minced vegetables
-Cumberland pie: same as Sheppard's pie, but with beef, aka cottage pie
-Fish pie: White fish and veg in a creamy sauce, topped with cheese

On to sweet pies, you little tart!
-Custard tart: small pie filled with English style cold custard
-Treacle tart: Pecans? We don't need no stinking pecans in our sugar pie.
-Mince pie: A Christmas classic! Boozy fruit in itty bitty pie crusts.
-Black Bun: We put an entire fruit cake in a pie
-Bakewell tart: It's a pie, smeared with jam, and filled with cake! Topped with almonds for good measure.

Thank you, the original was really disturbing...

You can make your wife a tart.

Another classic pie Americans miss out on, the butter tart. A true classic in the great white north. Sugar tart with raisins, topped with pecans or walnuts. Yep, we turned gooey pecan pie into a handheld snack.
