The new WRX

gah ny auto show will only have the concept? I thought they would unveil the production model. this means that there will be no new WRX for 2014. Why is subaru so damn slow?! I've been waiting for a while now

and I think the current WRX is a better looking car than that. Just cant pull the trigger on it because of the sub par interior and poor hwy mpg

No way the production version will look anywhere as sexy as that concept.

🙁

Well, one would hope it's similar. I wouldn't expect those wheels, the brakes or rotors to follow over, but the agressive look, the quad exhaust and maybe even the tail lights to look pretty close.

And and electro turbo is a cool thought, but yeah... don't ever see that happening. WRX could use a bump to like 300hp and a little nicer of an interior. Maybe something better than "barely acceptable" audio would be nice, too.

The latter part should hopefully get better due to the new engine and hopefully better turbos. You could further increase with a better map, and some lighter wheels.

I think it looks great, though I doubt the production car will be as swoopy or as derivative. The front fenders, in particular, look very similar to the GT-R's to my eyes, which would be fine only if this were a Nissan product, but it's isn't. The diffuser/exhaust is certainly aggressive for a car at this price point but I like it.

I like it, I'd admittedly miss the utility my '11 STI hatch offers though. I'm wondering if the WRX will be toned down a bit from the concept and the STI will end up being closer to it?

? Electric turbos have no lag. What's the problem?

Efficiency for high power applications. You're decoupling a direct kinetic link between the engine (belt/exhaust gas turbine) for an electric generation method of some kind (regenerative braking? bigger alternator?) to produce the additional necessary power to spin the turbo up.

Extra complexity for limited / no gain at high HP. Why?

It's fine for low pressure, high efficiency engines maybe. But it's not an enthusiast level solution by any means.

Why don't we instead work on superchargers with gearboxes or something for more low end variable grunt then?

Haha, Subaru concept car... they show us cool drawings that looks like this:

But then the actual production car looks like this:

*falls asleep from just being near the aura generated by Jules' new car* But yeah, prepare for mild to moderate disappointment in Concept -> Production styling. Anyhow, we'll find out in 1 moar day what they've got planned.
