The 5.4 second time from C&D was only possible if you didn't love your car. A 6-flat time was always the more realistic number, and is still pretty impressive in itself if you ask me.

C&D fudges its numbers. The car may have ran 5.9, but then they run it through a computer that tells them that in a perfect world, if all the stars aligned, air pressure and wind were just right, etc and so on it would have ran a 5.4.

Being that I don't particular like C&D, I would absolutely never think to apologize for them. However, I invite you to prove this little conspiracy of yours here. Otherwise, take your little tinfoil beanie back to P&N where it belongs.

tell me about it. I was all excited that i was gonna get a Impreza Hatch for 15.9k, but I test drove it and I did not like it. The only great thing about it is the engine. Everything else felt so behind when compared to a Mazda 3. I actually felt like I was in my aunt's old 92 Accord.

Most people don't know enough or will be able to push the car past its limit enough to tell anyway. And the traction control will probably save their ass when they try to. Subaru knows what they are doing.

They hit the dealer lots near me this weekend. I'm gonna check one out and report back.

I wish I remembered when they ran the article (it was a few years ago I think) but they stated that they run a car wherever it is that they have it and then normalize to STP. They have said this themselves. I'll see if I can dig up the article this evening.

And... I take back everything I've said about it thus far. Many have said that it looks totally different in real life from the pictures and I absolutely agree. It looks terrible. Like a Toyota. They should have named it the Subaru Corolla. Bland bland bland inside and out without a hint of the usual Subaru quirkiness.

And FFS, C&D "admitted" that they got their 5.4 second 0-60 in their 02 WRX by side-stepping the clutch from redline to get a full AWD launch and then by running 2nd up until it bounced off the rev limiter (which is just past 60 mph for 2nd).

What dealer had them? Did you drive the WRX?

I was planning to wait for the 08's before buying but I ended up with a Mustang GT.

From the sounds of it I may have done alright.

Carr has like 6 or 7 on the lot. I looked at a red WRX hatch.

Well...is it atleast more refined? more importantly, is it still fun to drive?

BTW, I thought the current model was bland to begin with.

The word is that the STI will debut at the Tokyo Auto Show in October, and go on sale next spring as a 2009 model.

First they lose the Scooby sound by using equal length headers (yes I know they are more efficient), then they forget quirky styling and go back to 1989 style designs.

I've totally lost my wood for Subaru, and that is sad.

Wha? Where does it say they're using equal length headers now?

Bah, I just want some twin scroll goodness. I keep telling my gf I want to throw what setup on her wagon.

USDM Impreza still gets the unequal length headers and the TD04.

Twin scroll is nice for low-end boost in the EJ20, but not necessary. You could just go with a quick spooling turbo like a VF39 or VF43 off an STI. I don't expect to go fast below 3k rpm anyway. :p

I admit I didn't actually drive the 2008. I was so shocked by the Toyota styling inside and out that I had to get out of there. All the "OMG it looks like a Mazda!" comments on Nasioc were totally off. I swear it looks exactly like any newer Toyota. It even smelled like one.
Engine-wise, performance should be a cross between the previous model and a newer Legacy GT, i.e. exactly what the mags are saying in their reviews.

Stopped by Carr this afternoon to look at the WRX's they had. They had the red hatch that Vic saw + three more (including a sedan), and one with NAV. I drove the red hatch, it had nearly 45 ish miles on it.

The good stuff:

Significantly improved power band (and FAR less turbo lag)
The new scoop is far less boy-racer than the old

The bad stuff:

While I like the functionality of the hatch the euro tail-lights are hideous.
Driver's seat feels cramped (width)
Long shift throw and awkward position relative to driver's seat.
I didn't care much for the clutch pick up, though I'm sure I'd get used to that.
Tach in the middle is probably not ideal for daily driving.

Bottom line:

Great new engine, but buy it in a Legacy GT.

They also had 3 Spec B's on their lot, first time I'd seen one of those. Very nice.

Mitsu is rumored to be working on a model to go between the Lancer & the Evo, so turbo + AWD. Hopefully they'll price it to compete with the Mazdaspeed3...drool
