The Hummer H2. I have never seen an new, expensive automotive product take off so well in the marketplace. My local area is literally crawling with these intimidating (and seemingly penile enhancing) brutes. Nary a day goes by when I don't see at least one of these $50,000 land barges on the road. I see more of these H2's than I do of the 2003 Accord, which probably outsells it 15 to 1 and costs a third. The only hypothesis I can come up with is that people are leveraging cash-out refinancings. The NE has experienced the greatest house price appreciation over the last year or so and people are converting home equity into assault vehicles. Maybe they want a vehicle for the future United States of Iraq?

H2, Escalade and what not are just passing fads. They will never replace the Range Rover. Range Rover is the ultimate status symbol. It symbolizes wealth, success and a quest for adventure. Every rich American has one. Not only that, but it also symbolizes "Old Money". All those riding around in their H2s and Escalades are just wanna be upper middle class people, who spend more than they make.

Looks like the H1 made by matchbox or Tonka. If ya want an SUV go with the Jeep Wrangler, probably the best SUV there is out there.

As with most symbols, the interpretation varies from person to person, but I fail to see how one can equate owning a RR (or any car or material item for that matter) as a symbol of "wealth, success, and a quest for adventure."

I liked the test that, Off-roading magazine I believe it was, did with the H2. Damned thing kept getting stuck and high-centered. Had to pull it out repeatedly with a Jeep. Guess that's why you never see an H2 doing anything in the commercials other than driving on flat terrain.

Its the tiny d*ck, big car theory. Have to compensate somewhere...

who spend more than they make.

He hit it right on the nose. Debt increases everyday and people don't secure themselves for the future...

Except that the Wrangler lacks cargo room and serious towing capacity.

Wrangler is exceptionally good off road though.

I still fail to see how people can spend more than what they can afford/make. I'm a pretty cheap guy, I mean I think twice before buying a burger from BK/Harveys/etc.. I fail to see how someone can just buy a H2 if they can't afford it?

Oh and H2s are not that common in Toronto. I've only seen a few.

if i had $50K to blow on a vehicle, i get a military surplus Humvee. Nothing like having a vehicle that can go it's top speed over any terrain.
It can also drive on a 45degree angle. up,down reverse, on the side slope.

And just remember, the H2 is built off of the Tahoe chasis.

and as long as we have rappers that buy more sh!t than they can really afford, all the impressionable people that listen to them and idolize them, will buy this and keep the fad alive.

Status symbol?? I used to drive those f'ing things. Dude, I hate the hummer. We broke more of those than the old jeeps we used to have. We had 40 year old jeeps that could take far more abuse than a hummer. Heck, in our unit we called our hummers "FORDs" because they usually were "Fixed Or Repaired Daily." Hummers suck. Old fashioned jeeps were cool and so are Land Rovers. Land Rover 0wnz Humvee! :)
