Going from an XP1700+ to an X2-4400+, I would be PO if I didn't... 😉Originally posted by: BitByBit
So you've noticed a big improvement in responsiveness over your previous rig?

So does the Toledo indeed handle MM as advertised?
Please run WinRar, decode a DVD , encode a MP3 from wave and let us know the CPU stress 😛

The difference is tremendous. Outstanding. I've also had the opportunity to test out a 3400+ Clawhammer on S754 and a 3700+ San Diego on S939, and neither compares to this X2 4800+. It's unlike any other computing experience I've ever had and I've been working with PC's since the late 1970's. If I'd worked with dual-processor systems then maybe I wouldn't be as shocked as I am, but my first exposure to dual-core has me floored. I'm doing everything I want with the knowledge that there's a whole planet of power waiting for me underneath the level that I'm currently using. When reviewers of the X2 write things like, "it's hard to describe...it's the smoothest Windows has ever felt" - they're not lying.

It's incredible how proud I feel about buying the 4800+. Never one to "throw money away", I thought I'd experience tremendous regret over the amount of the purchase and that isn't the case at all; given how much power I can feel under my fingertips, it really is an insignificant matter how much it cost. I'm more satisfied than I ever could have imagined.
I'm doing more and more each time I sit down, and that's because of the level of response I'm getting from this processor. I never thought I'd be a serious "multi-tasker", but now I realize the reason holding me back was the limitations of single-core computing. Why multi-task when your system starts to slow down and begins to crawl along like a snail? Now with X2 I just sit back and do this, I do that, a little over here, a little over there...anything I think of doing - I just do it. I don't bother wondering whether I should close an application here or there...heh, why bother? The 4800+ can take it all.
I'm a huge proponent of the 4800+ because it's currently the most powerful S939 has to offer, but any X2 processor should provide similar results to what I've experienced. Buy one within your budget, or stretch that budget a little and get a faster one, but definitely put an AMD X2 on your list of future upgrades
