I dunno, the test was easy, but then again I thought the SAT math was easy. The only thing that was hard was overlooking the fear that if my score sucked, you can kiss the top schools good-bye.

I'm happy that I got them all right. I haven't done math since highschool. I took one logic course at college, and nothing else even remotely mathematical. In law school, teachers even tell us to ignore any moath-related stuff in damage awards because they themselves don't want to both with it....🙂

I'm about to take the GRE...the math section is gonna OWN me.

On the bright side, the verbal and essay were basically handed to me on a platter. Major/Minor: Philosophy/Sociology.

I'm in Canada so I don't have to take this test, but I saw this little link on hotmail so out of curiosity I tried it. Well these questions are ridiculously easy, and I'm not even in grade 12 yet... is the real SAT this easy??

It was not that easy when I took it 16 years ago.
But, recently national average scores have been 100 to 150 points higher than the average when I took it.
That's because they changed the way they scored it since you took it.

And let folk use calculators. 😉

Seems a bit wrong because anyone who has taken Math 11 up here in Canada should be able to breeze through those questions. I did them in my head, most of them took about max 10 seconds. The final exam we got for Math 11 even had much harder questions.

Math 11 is probably the hardest grade of math you'll get besides Calculus (which is AP anyway). I scored 86% in grade 11 math and 92% in Grade 12 math with barely any studying time (I just did my homework).

I found math 11 very easy. =/ I did almost the entire final on my TI-83... final grade 99%. I thought math 10 was a lot harder, and I also think math 12 is a lot harder, im taking it right now, this is my last week. In math 10 I think I only got like 92% or something. Math 10 and 12 are strongly related, which is why this current curriculum is so screwed up.

Wow... this is absolutely trivial. What a cakewalk.

edit: That is grade 11 math in Canada, btw. None of those questions took any Grade 12 Math competence to solve. However, if there is Calculus you're screwed without the necessary education -_-

Does Grade 12 cover calc?

The point of the SAT is to cover what you should know and since only pre-calc + trig level of math is required for college entrance, that's what it tests.

No. Grade 12 does not cover calculus. You have to take Calculus AP to learn calculus in my school.

Aw, my school doesn't even offer an AP course. We just have a normal Calculus course to get you started with it, but you don't get any uni credit. By the end of the year, most people skip the class because they don't really care anymore.

I heard from most people that the English part of the SAT is pretty hard. A brainiac friend of mine got a perfect mark on it. Crazy. She's going to CalTech (i think that's what it's called?) this year.

IIRC, they made the test easier since the youth of today aren't as bright as we were back then.

And, to the youth of today, sorry, but it's true. Search for yourself... the SAT scores were going down, so it was adjusted to keep the scores higher.
Plus, they let you use a calculator now, since you'd be lost without one.

8/8, well under a minute total time 🙂 (but those who know what I do would expect it)

Of course it's easy. You're not supposed to be well advanced in mathematics to be able to solve these problems. Hell, there are seventh graders that take the SAT.

You just need to do them quickly. A 700 should be easy to get if you're decent with math.

Well, having a doctorate in Pizzaology requires lots of knowledge about circles, lines, and emptying the grease pit.

Ok....I'll admit it. A few of those I don't even have a clue how to try to solve. I'm assuming this is easier if you are the taking the SAT's or haven't been out of school long?

😱

I've been out for six years. 😉

I'm going back though...

For a mathematics degree...

SATs have always been pretty easy, when i took the test i think the ones i missed were due to careless mistakes because i didn't run into any that i didn't know. The SATIIs however can be a little more challenging for the average person.

I've been out for 13....🙁

I never did take the SAT's though, so I have no idea if this is easier or harder. I do know I feel extremely stupid now, and I never had trouble in math in school.

🙁

Honestly, how often do you use any of that in real life? Unless you're in a math-related field, you never really need anything beyond algebra.

People don't ask you to graph functions in real life.

Oh, I agree. I just feel dumb now since everyone is all "it's so easy now, are they kidding", and "it only took me like 2 minutes to get 8/8". Some of those I don't even know how to try to solve. 🙁

8/8 in like 5 minutes? That's kiddy stuff 🙁

I got a 1440 on the real SAT, and that was the day I was coming down with mono (shaking/shivering/cold). Weird 🙂 I am good at taking tests though.

What frickin kind of math is most of that? I'm a youngin and have only taken through Trig, no calc and I got a whopping 2/8 😱

That was partly my question. When I was in high school, only Algebra and Geometry were taught unless you joined an Advanced Placement Trig or Calc class. Neither were required to graduate. I always did well with algebra and geometry, but most of the questions left me saying...WTF?

How old are you guys?

I graduated HS in 2002, and I think all this stuff was covered in my FST and PDM (functions, statistics and trig, then precalc and discreet math) classes sophomore/junior year. Now I am pretty good at math, but 90% of the kids in my high school completed these classes by the time they graduated. Maybe it's just the school district I am in, but I find that hard to believe.

I graduate in 2005. Here the highest math that is offered is regular ol' calc which I have yet to take.
